    P18's+Trekkers = 7.25 lb
    Freerides = 4.6 lb

If you need to save that 2.65 lb, buy slightly lighter boots, or thermoflexes. Seriously.
Trekkers are for simple skins up to a single techy line or big cliff, but those things scare the F@# outta me. You cannot get any leverage when sidehilling.

I have skied plenty of scary shit on my Fritschis and even hucked some decent stuff, and if you keep some control they dont worry me (and I am 6'4" 210).

I would rather risk a slightly lesser binding on the decent, and have a more solid binding for the ascent. If you are doing much serious touring the ascents can kill you as easy as the decents.

I just wonder who all these people are that are throwing down 80' hucks and 2,500' - 45* straighlines in the "bc" where you'd actually want touring bindings cause trekkers would be a painful, poor substitute? I mean shit, I am sure that Jamie Pierre just fucking uses snowshoes to access his big BC booters cause no way could trekkers get you in like that and we all know that 150' ---> hottub would DESTROY dynafits.

And ummm anybody who's so rad that they feel like freerides are not going to hold up to the radness they plan to drop on a day's tour, please just let me know beforehand so I can find something else entirely to do, great...thanks!

Yes, how else can I get rad out of the heli or in-bounds than on real skis? Of course, my bindings will hold up in or out of bounds.

Guys, listen to what HighwayStar is saying, and stop being such myopic fuckshots.

Think about it. Freerides are a namby-pamby, low DIN binding. Low DIN bindings lead to fear - they make you scared of prerelease (teeheee! stay with me). Fear leads to hate. Hate has been shown to lead to heart disease. Thats a fact, you could look it up.

Do you really want to be standing on the top of a super-sickety gnar gnar line that you want to charge in the hardest way possible, and then have to worry about your blood pressure and the thought of dying from a heart attack before the age of 55? I didn't think so. So just stfu and buy some goddamn trekkers and some bindings that aren't intended for the Nathan Lanes of the ski world, and stop dogpiling on highwaystar.

Bill needs to lose those Marker m3.1s. That would fix everything.

HA....funny post.....but I still disagree (and why so ANGRY man?).

Have you ever set off skinning up a super crusty ascent at the wee hours of the morning. With Trekkers you are about 5 cm off your skis and there is tons of flex, so you cannot set a real edge. If all you do is slog up a skin track, then sure Trek away. But if you skin any challenging ascents, then I think you are taking your lives in your hands (Or you just have to use your crampons alot more).

Edit: I want some Cham skiers to weigh in. One of my best buddies (who is 6'5" 230) has spent the last 5 winters in Cham and he skis his Explosivs with Freerides. With the exposure out there, I am guessing no one would be caught dead on Trekkers.....or wait, I mean, they WOULD be caught dead. HA.

    I have another point too!

My friend Goldenboy was in AK last march and was skinning with a few people. He and his other Crested Butte buddy were on Trekkers, because they had already packed 2 pairs of skis for taking up in the Heli and didnt want to bring touring stuff too (for the record GB has first decents to his name on Colorado 14ers...ON FREERIDES).

Anywho.....they see this huge slide barreling down the hill, full national geographic video style, three of them manage to ski forward and get out of the way, but they look back and the forth guy gets totally crushed and taken. GB and buddy start fucking around with their trekkers (and are crouch deep in snow), and luckily the forth (who was Rob DesLauries) was on Freerides and was able to just lock a heel and ski down to help the guy partially buried. R.D. was at the buried guy helping, before GB and friend were even clicked into their skis.

    Trekkers suck!

I think the very clear conclusion of this thread is that Basom sucks.

You forgot to mention his quiver overlap, as well. And I really don't believe Huckwheat's story at all. Why would they need trekkers if they were in AK where everyone just flys in helis? I call bullshit.

good thing you are trying to work some of those pounds off in the gym so you can throw down harder and be able to run a lower DIN so you don't worry about coming out of those death traps.
