Just got home from seeing "Born From Ice" by the Meathead boys, all EC ski film. Gotta say, for a super low-budget film they did a pretty good job. It definitely has that home video feel to parts of it, and as Freeskier noted, there are a lot of shots of them eating, but also some very cool skiing in the movie. Lines that you never see in any MSP/TGR type film, and guys dropping cliffs into heavily treed areas (cause that's what we've got). A few really nice, big drops at the start of the movie, and plenty of jibbing throughout. Also a cool trip to ski in Newfoundland, including some above treeline snowcat skiing.
I thought it was pretty cool, and would recommend it to any EC skiers who want a movie that shows what some of the really good EC days are often like. But I'd also say that Westerners, especially those who haven't skied out here, might be interested in seeing it just because it shows a type of skiing that they've probably never really seen, which is almost never in ski movies.
Also, our own Skijunky had a few very good sequences--good work!
Also good to see maggots Mtn Man, Spanky, and Roadtrip (screw the CMA's!) at the show. Now we need to make it cold around here, dammit.
Agreed, a quality EC film! I picked up a copy for myself and recommend it to any maggot here. There are definitely shots you will never see in any MSP or TGR film. Truly tight trees, iceflow drops, and just sick double stagers amongst the pines. Stowe, MRG and Jays are knarly playgrounds and these guys catch the essence of them all.
As always, great to see the maggot contingent, along with the Kzoners too. Spanky cleaned up with the swag this time around, congrats!
Definitely one too many cowboy hats in Penn Station last night. In my drunken stuper (okay, well I wasn't that bad) I walked between the camera and the interview at least twice and then strolled up the red carpet...
Fun flick! Although I'm thinking next year, you owe it to yourselves to get some skiing in New Jersey footage. Definitely something your competitors will never have!
