Actually, I'm pretty sure that the "japan" grab was documented as a late 1998 trick. Truck driver grabs replaced it in the "progression" food chain.

Hrm, doesn't look like that left hand is anywhere near the ski. Does grabbing your ass count as a grab? I'm telling you... if you're going to do stuff like that at least take up tele. Mark Tieszen has a cover of Telemark Skier doing a backflip boot-cuff grab.

And heh, if it's about "style", then I'm sorry to say it but you've got none.
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

Answering previous question, the Mothership in the 182 size will be here mid Dec, thanks for being patient.
The reason we would be oversold right now on some models is because we finish collecting order from dealers in May. We need to order material at that time because of the long leadtimes to recieve the raw materials. We then produce that quantity plus some extras. Between May and now there were many more new and re-orders placed by shops beyond the qty which we ordered materials to produce. This is the reason that we sometimes on high demand models reach this time of year with more orders then product. Its also very bad financially to have lots of left over inventory. The only way to get rid of it is to sell it at cost or less in the spring to dealers which means loosing money. So producing closer to demand even if it means sometimes running out is always better.

Your getting screwed by your suppliers. Needing to place firm raw materials orders with approx 20 weeks lead time sucks. I would guess that whomever has set up your purchasing contracts with your suppliers has never worked with just in time, or short lead manufacturing.

That includes the raw mat supplier building some materials to our specs for each model/size cores for example, then shippping to factory, then we can't produce all the skis at one time, its months of production alone. Order in May to delivery in Sep which is actually more like 16 weeks which includes time for shipping raw materials and shipping finished product to us, then shipping to shops. Its all crunch time due to the seasonal business. This year we were it was do or die moving our entire factory to China including 7 factory managers/engineers, etc. to set it up and run it. The exchange rate in Canada changed 30% over the past 2 years. That was our margin just to break even so it was either raise prices 30%, go out of business or make a quick move out of North America. We went the K2 route in China because their dollar stays more in line with US so less exchange rate risk. The set up of production and training of new employees, shipping raw mat by boat from europe and canada to china all caused about a 2 months delay, thus the reason for such shipping this year. In the long run this investment in the factory move set us up for a stable future.

My assumptions were based on product still being built in North America. Was not up to speed on the move to overseas production. Comments were not meant to slag Line, just comment on the huge fixed lead times with suppliers.
Good luck with the move offshore. Guess your next step would be local raw material supply in China. Bamboo cores?

now with K2 owning Line & Karhu both, the production should stabilize, and the sourcing of materials should be significantly streamlined. Esp since K2 has been operating in China for a while & has the whole system dialed in. It would be cool to hear Jasons angle on this whole thing now........
