    So long Seattle...

These past few months have totally worn on my patience, my self worth, and my nerves. Upon returning home from SA, I started the job search and anxiously awaited my bar results. When the latter came in with flying colors, I foolishly believed that any job could be mine. Then comes the harsh reality bitch slap: SEATTLE'S JOB MARKET BLOWS! Not only had 3 years of law school, one year prosecuting, and passing my bar on the first try been in complete vain as far as the legal arena was concerned, I wasn't qualified to do anything NON legal either. At least once a week I was under the covers crying on the phone to my mom by 10 am, totally distraught over my bleak job situation.

I didn't want a job as a prosecutor, though that is really what I am qualified to do. I needed to make a certain amount of money to just break even, and I really wanted to stay in Seattle. Hehehehe...then comes my attitude adjustment. I applied for an entry level position as a Deputy Prosecutor for the Clark County Prosecutor's office and as of 12:30 this afternoon...THEY OFFERED ME A JOB!

My start date is December 1st and I have actually talked myself into feeling like this is a good move. Yes, I will be moving from Seattle to Vancouver, WA aka The Couv. Yes, I will be farther from Crystal and Baker and all of my friends that I have made in the time that I have lived here. But this is temporary and for the purpose of getting some really valuable trial experience and saving money so that hopefully within a year or two I will be back in Seattle. I already have plans to get my Crystal pass and will be commuting as much as possible up north to ski.

This next year is gonna be interesting and the only thing that keeps me charging ahead is that I am only 26 and can always go back to skiing. But for now, it is time to pull on the big kid pants and give this being a lawyer shit a shot. Wish me luck!!!

Girlski- I hadn't heard you'd passed your exam so first:

    FUCKING CONGRATULATIONS!

second: as for getting a job

    FUCKING CONGRATULATIONS!

sure, it may not be a prosecutor's job 10 mins from baker making 350K/year with 12 weeks of vacation but in the real world, it takes a few tries to find the job. Good experience is the most valuable thing you can rack up right now cause while your first lawyerin job has a lot to do with class rank your next one will be based almost entierly on how hard you crush this job.

edit- holy fuck was I off disregard earlier section, goddamn. :nonono2 [/total PNW geography gaper]

Buck up little camper, welcome to the rest of your life

anybody know if 666 passed this time or no? shit I've been ignorin the lawyerin threads lately

    EXACTLY!

Congrats from the fellow WA crew. We will certainly miss your heckling, but PDX is all too close to SEA so I'm sure we'll still be seeing you around these parts and at Xtal in the winter.

Lemon- I think 666 finds out this week?

If you totally hate the Couv (which you won't b/c you will be wicked close to some great BC skiing) you should seriously think about coming up here to Anchorage. It is a lawyers land-o-plenty - there are jobs EVERYWHERE. If you clerked for a state court judge in AK for a year (which is a great experience as well), getting a job is really easy. Something to think about...good luck with your work!

Feel free to PM me anytime if you are thinking about AK...

Congrats. Don't sweat the minisculars, you're a class act. It will all pan out. Sorry you have to leave Seattle, but it's just a little bump. You'll get where you want to go. Portland is a great little town. And you may be surprised by White Pass.

I used to travel to Vancouver (WA) for work. It's not too bad, downtown Portland is right across the river, and lots of year round stuff to do in the Gorge, ... take up wind surfing for example. Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and Hood all within an hour's drive.

Nope, wrong direction, LB. Vancouver WA is down near Portland (i.e., south of Seattle).

The dirty little secret of law school is that the legal market sucks ass.
There have been so many law grads from so many law schools that the profession is swamped with bodies.
Unless you have portable client billables, it is very tough out there.

#1 job qualification is who you know.

That is what will get you your next job.

Thanks dude. And it is the less cool of the two Vacnouver's- Vancouver WA. I would shit my pants if I could find a job in Vancouver BC. And Skier666 finds out on the 18th of this month.

This office is alot smaller and so the rotations through District Court hell (petty theft, hit and runs...stupid resource wasting crimes) is quick. They have already speculated that given my experience in District Court, if a position opens in a felony unit I could be up there in as short as a few months. That could kick some ass and boost a resume at the same time.

    AD- thanks for the props.

This is gonna be a crazy learning experience and a test of my ass kicking skills fo sho.

    Have fun at Meadows, GS.

    Have fun in the 'couv.

    Shoulda moved out here.

Actually, Vancouver ain't bad and Portland rocks. The skiing sucks ass but you can always cruise over to Bachelor. Get ready for some sicko mountain biking, my friend. Portland has some good shit if you know where to go. Good luck and congrats! When are you moving? I'll be out there for the weekend of 12/11 and will be shredding the gnar of Meadows on Sunday.

Well done and congrats. Am I two years out of the bar now and I have found that the Seattle legal market is hellish--took me a long time to find my niche and a good law job (two years later and I still am wary about my firm) So, that is great that you found a job!

I don't know how many times I have been pissed off that the law has kept me from just moving to CO, or Europe or some other place to ski and have fun. I am glad you get to do both.

Congrats. One of my best friends is the assistant state's atty. for Washington County, MD. His position is that of "Drug Csar," basically. Cracks me up every time I think about it. Anyway, his goal is to one day be judge -- it will happen. If there is a God I will be busted for posession in his county on that day. You may think about that career path rather than the private sector.

Congrats on your first "real" job. That's the hardest one to get. It only gets more interesting (and weirder) from here on out!

Yeah but you're going to be close to White Pass and that's not so bad - then there's Hood too.

Hey there young chica - you've got the goods and more years in front of the cart than behind. Enjoy and congrats!

There's always meadows + skibowl. Not the same as crystal but can be good and it is close. Maybe we'll see you out there.

I'm happy for you. I love to me my lawyer friends actually going to court. You'll have to hand with my PD friends if you're every out here. It is a great feeling when you make a life choice knowing that what you're leaving will still be there if you choose to return. One more reason to get the PNW tour rolling this winter.

Congrats. Lots of Lewis and Clark Law folk in those parts. I know some great folks who are doing quite well in the OR law system, loving PDX, and getting plenty of good days in at meadows and Bachy every year (except this last one of course).

Go drop some justice on 'em.
