So the other day I get my house broken into. They toss a brick through the master bedroom glass double door, rush in, rush to the front of the house where the other bedroom is, jack ONLY my lap top and bail I think they only got the laptop b/c my roommate showed up, at what i would think is the right time and spooked them off, so they had to cut their looting short.
About 2.5hrs later the cops show up, take some statements, csi the place and they then roll. I feel sick at this point, pissed, upset and cased. What really sucks was all they got was my laptop. NOTHING ELSE...which leads me to feeling even more "cased" In reality i think it was just random dumb luck. My roommates foot is jacked so he's been hanging at home, he runs out for an hour an we get hit, in the middle of the day.............
So anyway 2 days later the cops call me. They ask me if I have a laptop of a specific make. I tell them i HAD a laptop....they say " you still do " I'm like no shit. no fucking shit?!???! Are you kidding me...i thought it was a friend clowning me. So i go pick it up...virtually perfect, except for some dirt and what not. I guess they didn't have time to monkey with it do to the cops.
They nabbed the kids a few hrs later that night, trying the same smash and grab. 2 fockin thankless punk kids. I'm still awed and dumbfounded with the cops....i've never had any such luck with the feds...
anyway just figured i'd share with you my story, it was a miserable two days, the kicker is the shit's only 2mths old, i just got it.
No matter who you are, karma does rear it's head, i think i cashed all mine in and got some on loan with this nonsense.
Don't become complacent, watch your shit, it can happen to anyone, and i live in a decent neighborhood.
That's great! Here is my story... Last spring, we were burglarized mid day. They got my wife's engagement ring and a Movado dress watch my wife bought me a few years back. My wife was heart sick about the ring. The watch, I wore like twice since I got it so other than the monetary loss, no biggie. Let me add here that I had just switched home insurance companies and I neglected to schedule her ring so I'm looking at around $8500 to replace it. She really doesn't want a new ring, she wants the original. I hit every pawn shop I can find offering $$$$ if they recover the ring and as an incentive, I tell them I will ask no queations about the watch. Three weeks go by and we are in the process of ordering a new setting when the local detectives call on the Friday before July 4th week end. They found the ring in another city in a jewelery shop known for buying hot stuff. They had arrested the scum bag who did the burglary as he made his way out of the 2nd floor window of another house. He gave up the jeweler. The jewelery store had removed all the stones from all the hot rings he had purchased and crushed the settings with one exception, MY WIFE'S RING! The long and short of it is the cops will not prosecute the fence because he is out of state and works as a snitch for the local cops there. The scum bag who broke into my house was a stone junkie with a huge rap sheet. He admitted to over 20 hits in a 5 mile radius of my house.Per the detective, a plea bargin will see him on the street back at work within 3 years. He will probably be better at it since he will be able to use all the new tricks he will learn in prison. Anyway, my wife is elated and I don't have to pony up for a new ring
I showed up to work a few weeks ago and found the trim from around my office window on the ground. I really didn't think anything of it and just walked inside (it seems like someone is always working on our building doing something). When I get into my office and open the blinds I notice that the window is cackracked...wtf? I go back outside and notice that the window frame is bent to shit. I call the cops, and they tell me that a lot of local businesses have been getting hit that way. These guys were removing the window from the frame to get in (I was told by ADT security that cheap security systems listen for the sound of breaking glass). Anyway, these guys didn't get into my place because, get this, the windows in my building were installed backwards and upsidedown (basically, you'd normally remove the bottom of the frame on the outside to get the window out, but on my window you need to remove the top of the inside of the frame). I found out the window info from the guys that came to replace the glass. They said that you could get into just about any commecial property this way, and they were absolutely dumb-founded when they realized how my windows were installed. Anyway, I got a call a week or two back from the police asking for a monetary amount for damages (cheap for what I did to fix it, but the whole wall needs to be torn apart to put in a new frame that's not all bent up, so could be expensive). He explained that they had caught the guys. Then, to top it all off, I got 8 letters from the District Attorney outlining the charges against the 4 individuals asking if I'd like to receive updates on the cases...sure. Regardless, after having my car stolen and basically being told "too bad" by the Salt Lake police, I'm rather impressed with the West Valley City police. These guys seem like they might actually do "police work".
A friend of mine was up snowboarding one weekend last spring. We're hanging out at Gold Coast drinking towards the end of the day. When we leave he can't find his board. We look all over. No board. He has to ride the Funi down. Gives a report to security, but they're pretty doubtful about finding it. That was Saturday. He rents a board for Sunday. He's standing in line at the Funi and sees a kid with his board behind him. Not like oh, that's the same kind of board as mine. This is his board, same stickers, etc. So he goes up to the kid and starts giving him a ration of shit. Where'd you get this board, motherfucker? Now he's about to kick the kids ass, but he's not a dumbshit, so he yells to one of the lifties to get security instead. They arrest the kid and because the board was worth more than $500 (or some number thereabouts) it's a felony. No shit, they're charging the kid with a felony. That fucktard deserves it though.
