Question Moooooo: Front Range Omnivores Part Duex

Well we're now out of beef and das hawg is running low so it's time to start thinking about fillin up the freezer again.

Any interest in going in on a cow? Depending on how much interest there is will depend where I go, if I can get enough people for a half or better then I'll try to buy from my friend's family out in Wray (USDA PRIME) but less than a half and we'll probably just do something much more local. Last time we did it things ended up about $3.30/# and the cattle market is in roughly the same spot as then so I would expect it to be similar again. An eight of a cow is a LOT of meat and will feed two dedicated meat eaters for 6-8 months. I expect an eight to run ~225 or less (would be an enormous animal at that price). Keep in mind that doing this gets you a lot of inexpensive beef: lots of it is kind of "odd" though and not what most Americans are conditioned to buy at the grocery store, there is a decent amount of top end meat as well.

More details are dependant on interest levels.

My friend is trying to get people to go in on a buffalo, if you want to try something different. He has a tag. I think it figures out to about $2-3 a pound, after processing and a $450 tag. Just throwing it out there....

    Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh. (insert homer's donut face).

If I had the freezer space and ability to cook it, I'd do it. Let me know around this time next year.

I'm always down. You know my style, always pay more to have the soul food turned into sausage. Before you do anything, let me check with my Iowa connection for the kind organic.
