    packed out boots... now what

    (tried a search)

i have a pair of lange comp120fr booties from two years ago, and they have packed out- plus they were a size too big to start with. I need a liner which will make these boots feel a size smaller and will resist future packing out.

what should i be looking for?

can i buy a size 9.5 liner which will fit a size 10.5boot? do these things exist?

you can, but it won't really help. If the shell is too big you should really get a new boot. OR a boot fitter could probably cut some space down, but even that would be tough.

If they are a size too big, you should get new boots.
    Drive slow, homie.

Ha, bought some Tecnica Vento's for me and my wife yesterday. Spent too much. Not that you care...
Anyhoo, the bootfitter guy was saying they can always make a boot bigger, but can't make it smaller.
Check to see what kind of Shell-Fit you have.
You need to look at 5 & 6 here: http://www.bootfitters.com/custom_boot_fit_tips.htm.

if your shells are truly too big i wouldnt waste the money buying new liners for them. most companies (like lange) wont sell you new liners alone (unless you've got an inside connection) and it would be a waste of money to drop the cash for injection liners for a shell thats too big. turxski was right, you can always make a shell bigger, taking up extra room is a pain in the ass and often doesnt really work well.

Try to find some last year model boots on sale. Who would have sold you boots a size to big anyhow? Maybe they will work with you to put you into a better shell size. Shell size is far more important then liner size.

You're pissing up a rope if you try to fix boots that are a shell size too big.

apart from the size issue, which seems to have been covered pretty well allready, i'd suggest just getting new boots anyways. boots are something that you don't even realize the ones you have suck till you get a new pair.

If you're going to get other boots/liners anyway, at least try this:

line the outside of the liner evenly with duct tape. try one layer. then 2, then 3. When thinking about how much volume this takes up, imagine balling this amount of duct tape, it's actually a fair amount of volume.

Then you can look at a small heel lift, again, more volume.

you may be able to work with your buckles a bit to re-rivet them to make them tighter too.

    jooo can doo eet!!

When my Langes packed out I got new Salomon liners and had some volume taken out for a better fit. Same thing -- the boot fitter thought the shell was too big. I happen to like my toenails and didn't want to spring for new boots. He added a cork plate under the liner to move my foot up and make for a tighter fit. Worked fine.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

    I´m a "too-big-boot" victim too.
Redeemed most/all of the when the original liners packed out with theese:

-Getting a half a size too big (27) of raichle thermoflex innerboot into the 26.5boots.

They were perfect untill i went to a shop to fix a small problem in the ball of foot and fucked up the boots a bit. They got a bit too much space
-inserting a 4mm cork shim between the liner and boot (like snowdog).
-inserting a nordica plastic heel cup/shim.
-duct taping the liner a bit.

About 120 days on them and still working quite well.

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Put a "sports insole" in the liner -- the ones with the molded plastic arch support. This will take up a lot of volume in the foot. Plus, you can take your boots into REI or any random sports store and try it out. If it doesn't work, you've spent nothing.

To take up room in the leg area, Molefoam is your friend. It's really thick, so you don't need much.

Of course, if your liner is packed out to the point your ankle bones are hitting the shell, none of this will help.
