Amazing area, please help if you can.
DANGER! DANGER!
Lower Salmon River could be open to mining.
Help protect the river - write a letter today!
The Lower Salmon River Canyon from French Creek to the Snake River has been protected from mining for over 30 years, but that protection will expire soon. It's up to you and your friends that love the Lower Salmon to take action to keep the Lower Salmon mine free.
The Lower Salmon River is a free-flowing gem that has super rapids, stunning scenery, excellent camping and lots of fish and wildlife. It's a great place to spend an afternoon or a week. 500,000 people visit the river each year.
26,500 acres of land in the canyon have been protected from new mining claims, mineral exploration and mining activity because the Department of Interior WITHDREW the land. The WITHDRAWAL will expire in 2006, and the land will automatically become available for mining. The land withdrawal must be extended in order to continue the protection.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is accepting comments on their proposal to extend the land withdrawal for twenty years. Public support (that means letters from you and others) is critical; mining interests have the ear of many in the Department of Interior.
Take responsibility for protecting the Lower Salmon River by writing a simple letter explaining how you use the Lower Salmon River and expressing your support for a 20-year extension of the land withdrawal.
