    06 Fisher Rig Issue/Concern

    Mags.

I have a bit of a concern/issue. I picked up a brand new (fat ass)rig a week or two ago. I've put probably 100-150miles on it already. However about 3 days after getting it, i started to experience a creek/slight pop sound/ noise from the bottom bracket. It sounds sort of like a bb sounds if it's on its way to being shot. I took it in and told them and they said that fishers tend to come from the factory with less than adequate grease. (whatever) They said they'd take it apart, regrease and whaaaala. Well they "did" this and after one nice long ride, 1/2 way through the ride it's making the same noises, a bit worse than before.

Can some of you Mags chime in on the following:
    1. A rigs Idiosyncrasies: Anyone read, experienced or know of any issues. Do they all make noise etc?
    2. the eccentric bottom bracket: Are they known for noises etc? I do not have a lot of experience with this type of bracket.
    3. Should I ride it like this for another couple weeks and get it good and broken in or should I take it back at once. The free wheel is still a bit stiff.
    4. Anything at all to help or guide me?

I just want to make sure my new ride is all good. It's an awesome ride!!

    Thanks mags. It's appreciated.

My 2000 Gay fish Sugar has been creaking for most of it's life. I can't remember when it wasn't. I have never had a problem with it, other than it creaks and that sound could drive people crazy. I have learned to live with it, but it is a pain. Easily been creaking for 4-5 years. I replaced the BB in 2001, but it didn't matter, still got the creaking. I raced the bike for a few years and had no mechanical problems in that area. Not sure if it this helps, but it has been my experience with da fishers.
A gay-rage full of toys. You can guess em.

forgot about that one. I put it in the Fisher forum & the SS forum. It is now in the twoniner forum as well. The more eyes the better huh?

I'd rather exhaust the options/opinions on here/mtbr than all my loot, screwing around with it, especially if this terribly fuckin creek is par for the fisher course.

    Werd.

Do you think it is the interface with the bb and eccentric or the eccentric itself and frame interface? If it is the BB and eccentric interface, try teflon tape and grease on the BB threads, if its the eccentric frame interface, then I have no clue. Hopefully if its that much of an issue, GF/ the mothership will make it right.

Hard to say. Obviously more moving parts than a standard. I would've thought taking it apart the first time and greasing it like a tank would've done it. I posted on mtbr earlier today and several people stated that it seems to be par for the course for these things to creek. Still not ready to swallow that yet.

Squeaks can be hard to pinpoint. Be sure to check all the usual suspects first. Tighten all your crankbolts, grease your saddle rails, and grease your pedal threads. If you are still hearing the squeak, then you can be much more sure it's your bottom bracket.

I'd take it in asap. The longer you ride it, the less leverage you have.

took it in tonight and had them "'adjust" it while i hung around. If the creek comes back i'll be taking it to the shop i bought the other bikes at (had to buy it at this one b/c these rig's are apparently tough to locate and i didn't want to wait) pay them 20bucks as they assure their work, and have them tear it apart and "adjust" it one last time. Since they assure their work, i'm wondering if the creek resurfaces, if i can have the bb replaced under warranty, as on mtbr, a few said they've had the truvativ tossed and had a fsa or raceface put in and supposedly whaaala.....no more creek...we shall see. I'm hoping i'm out of the creek but seems to good to be true at this point.

    try yoursself if they don't/won't

Take the BB from the shell

remove the EBB from the frame

    rechase the BB threads

reface the outside of the BB

    clean,

clean again just to be sure.

lube the threads to the EBB and install,

lube the EBB and install BB.

Tighten to right foot pounds (too much or too little can make it noisy)

if not call fisher? or start replacing the BB.

so far so good. if it comes back i'll be messing with it myself. Just figured that i dropped the coin, they might as well make it right. I do have a feeling it'll be back. Rides fine, love it. It's just noisey.

One more oft overlooked source of creakage. the seatpost/frame interface.

That one got me this summer. Brand new stumpjumper 120. I SWORE up and down the BB was creaking. Went to a friend and we finally figured out the creaking went away when I was out of the saddle. Greased the seatpost, problem solved. Comes back anytime too much crap gets in the interface.
The older I get, the better I was.

Right, except if the shop regreased the BB and the squeak stopped (for a while) then it was related to the only variable that was changed: the BB.

Grease where the crank goes on to the shaft too. It's very possible that the Non-drive side is moving a little with weight/unweight causing a shift; In-turn creeking.
