    Season pass karma

I just got a message from a bro in the lower 48 stating he just got his season pass today AND it started snowing. While that is indeed a good sign and hopefully a harbinger of continuous snowfall, it reminded me of a true story a few seasons back.

It was mid-November and we had been waiting patiently for a real snowstorm to hit south-central Alaska. There were many solemn faces throughout the local tribe at CD and Mag`s Ullr-fest in Girdwood, an annual gathering to praise the snow gods, burn a few old skis to seed the clouds, and drink a lot of beer. This friend of mine we`ve nicknamed Screech(Saved by the Bell), who is quite jovial and philosophical, and absolutely rips on skis had been wearing his season pass practically since he`d bought it weeks prior.
The festivities were going well with the bonfire a-blazing and folks showing up with skis and the crowd yelling "burn them!" and the skis getting tossed in causing sparks to fly upward. Well, Screech had been brandishing his pass and showing everyone the goofy picture of himself on it, when a respected tribe elder stated "that`s why it hasn`t snowed, you`ve jinxed us." Utter silence fell upon the scene as everyone contemplated the revelation exposed.
It seemed the snow gods were not happy; in fact Ullr was quite pissed off and it had rained that week. Suddenly breaking the silence was the cry "burn it!" The drunken crowd joined in" burn it, throw that pass in!" Screech quite simply removed the pass from around his neck and tossed it in to nearly everyone`s disbelief.
The very next evening it started nuking and dumped for nearly a week. We were to have one of our best snow years` ever. Screech was to pay a $50 replacement cost for his sacrifice; a small price for a fat season. See you in the white room...

Cool story. Just yesterday I paid for my pass and got my picture taken for it, and when I was signing the receipt, someone said "Hey look, it's snowing!" Sure enough a little flurry had kicked up. This morning there was snow on the ground when I woke up.
