Got some turns on Mt.Rose today... only a few inches but it was sure nice to be on snow again in the basin!

    Nice pic's
Soo what was the WIND like? It has been blowing like hell here for the past two days. I heard there are about 10" of snow? Anyway nice to see the dedication. I will be @ Mt. Rose (Ski Area) next Thursday.

Also are you BC on Mt. Rose? or @ the Mt.Rose ski area on slide Mountain?

I am going to ignore the crack about turns in CA!

    I took a second look

The first pic (Where the snow looks good) is a run where snow making has been going on. (The Top of Kit Carson)

Then it's prolly safe - I think all of the main trails at Rose have no rocks and are covered in a hay like substance...

...I'm hittin it tomorrow (rock skis of course)!!

How did you get to it?

Did you walk right up from the parking lot or sneak in from 431?

I never asked but i did not think Mt. rose operations would let you on before they opened? Did they see you hiking or making turns?
I guess it is forest service land.

All I can say about this is that the ski patrol director Mike is one of those power tripping wanna be cop dickheads. Look out for him!

You can do an easy car shuttle from the highway summit: leave a car at the newish parking lot for the Mt Rose summit trailhead; right across the road is a fire road that takes you over onto the ski area. Leave another car in the Rose parking lot, main side.

Who wants to go this Sunday morning early, early? Like meet at 6:30am or 7:00am? No bull.

Hmm...sounds like a good plan to me. I assume you know the proper route?

Never done it but it's supposedly not a dangerous hike from the fire trail to the top.

Famous last words. I'm leaving south Reno at 6:30am and will be there at 7am.

I talked to a Mt Rose employee friend today who said it's definitely off limits (although I don't think she knew what she was talking about) - so sneaking in from up higher on 431 looks to be the smart move - along with staying out past the lakeview chair out of sight.

Are you parking at the fire road entrance (not the parking lot that's higher up)? I didn't make it up there today so I'm thinking of joining in the fun - if I can wake up that early that is...

    1. They aren't going to say "sure, help yourself to the tracks."

    2. A friend supposedly will meet me in So Reno at 6:30am and we'll drive up together. I'll leave my car at the main Mt Rose Ski Area lot .....somewhere.

We'll then head up further to the new parking lot at the 'true' Rose peak summit on the north side of the highway just before the meadows. It's across from the road that leads to the Mt Rose Ski peak (back side to the skier's left of Around the World, Lakeview, etc).

I'll be in black pants, orange shell, powder blue or brown helipack, and my 189 Maden's slung across my back. Absolutely no color coordination whatsoever. I'm walking/hiking; not skinning up.

(My Explosiv, Vicious, and Legend Pro are getting tuned. Legend Pro are too darn heavy compared to the other skis anyway).

I am thinking about it. I don't have any skis handy that I want to lug up there or smack rocks with?. But, an adventure is an adventure. If I show up you will see a 1996 Jeep (Grey, purple) @ the Mt. Rose Summit. I wish it could have waited for more snow, Poaching Lower Lake View is much better and a quicker trip out.
Anyway Maybe I will see you there. 8hrs from now?

I got my shovel in my pack, skis diagonlly strapped in, ski boots out of the garage & upstairs warming up, clothes laid out. All I have to do is add water to my pack, get up, and go!

Looking at my gear in my living room has me quite stoked!!! I'll bring a digital camera so we can post pics tomorrow.

We got busted by Neidermeir! "I recognize you as passholders". Uh-oh. But it was worth it:
