They are both in Colorado and that's about where the similarities end.
You don't strike me as a motivated enough self-starter for either of them though. IMO
fine ill rephrase the question...i just got rejected from my fucking dream school and i took two exams today on 4 hours sleep, and i need a nap...im clutching at straws i know theyre both incredibly different (the block plan for cc, and the fact that boulders a state school being two large differences) and i know im being lazy like i said need a nap puhpuhpuhpuph....anyways...i less wondering which mountains are closer to each, and more wondering if any of you live close to either and have a cool story or info like that about either or if you have some type of opinion about either.......
whatever mannnnnnnn
where's boulder college?
I hold degrees from both. I'm familiar with the administration, culture, strengths, weaknesses and expectations of both schools.
When you're better rested and have specific questions that demonstrate some degree of forethought and interest beyond asking me what you could learn by opening a fucking road atlas, I might be able to help.
Sorry about your "dream" school. Which one?
middlebury (VT)

pinner i want less to know their academic strengths and more kinda inside stuff...the little details that make one awesome, or that annoying aspect which almost made the other unbearable...

really are apples & oranges as far as schools.
if all you are really interested in is skiing I would recomend
1)Western State College of Colorado
Gunnison, Colorado 81231 800.876.5309
2)

3)
Fort Lewis College

I got into both. And I made right decision:
University of Oregon!
Quack quack quack quack!
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."
On the Block Plan I:
-spent two weeks travelling the Southwest in a 1950's road cruiser bus learning geology.
-took a class on 'Women In Rastafarianism.'
-spent a week in Durango studying water economics. Included in classtime was a whitewater trip on the Animas River.
-took a Block off after Spring Break to chill in Barbados.
-graduated on time with an extra semester worth of credit.
-learned to ski the "backcountry" before I knew it had a name.
-learned how to chill and how to deal. CC students are masters at working hard and playing even harder.
If you hate your class, it's over in 3 weeks. If you love your class, it's all you do for 3 weeks. The pace is intense and no one is going to hold your hand. Get the flu and you'll fail a Block. Shit, sneeze and you can miss a few chapters. If you don't think you can handle reading an average of 200 pages of homework a night, look elsewhere.
whatever mannnnnnnn

only for me UofO was the ONLY place that accepted me....california schools blow!!!
Being a junior at CC I feel obliged to offer my opinion. The block plan works for me. Works for me real nice. You can get so much backcountry etc. in the breaks between classes. I've been all over colorado, utah, california, nevada, new mexico, etc. during breaks. And thats combined with all the weekend jaunts thrown in. As pinner said, if you're interested in geology, there isn't a better physical geology school on the continent. You'll actually get credit for camping out and looking at amazing views. Of course you'll also spend time in lab looking at rocks.
Being a Physics major can be a serious bitch at times. I've literally been in lab from 8am-10pm for weeks on end. But damnit if you're in a chill class, life is grand.
And you can take time off with the blocks. This winter I'm in british columbia and then new zealand for 3 months of ski mountaineering, before I bust back for another block of class in may.
It's also in C-springs, which in my humble opinion, sucks. And its a haul to get to the mountains. You gotta make friends with the nice pretty girls who own condos in ski towns, so you can stay for weekends.
It's a lot more laid back vibe than middlebury. It seems everyone here looked at middlebury and thought they were a bunch of stuck-up bastards, so I wouldn't sweat not getting into it. (i've got friends at middleburry, so let's not have anyone taking offense). It's got a real hippy vibe to it. A rich hippie vibe. And its got girls that can rip.

GAAAAAh where?????????????? you tease me..........this information is crucial!!! HeeeoiVEEEEEEEN
I went to school in Boulder for a year and a half and if you are looking at going there for good skiing with a good education forget abuot it. 1:45 to Breck (lame mountain but good park) 2:15 to vail (big but lame) not to mention it is way cold and they don't really get that much snow no matter what the statistics say. The snow is so dry it packs to nothing and you sink straight to the bottom. Oh yeah if it doesn't snow the snow packs down to the most solid stuff imaginable that isn't ice. CC is even farther from the resorts. If you want a school with good skiing go to UNR in Reno 45 min to Squaw and Alpine or UC Davis 1:15 to the hill. I am not sure what you are studying but Davis is a really good school and UNR isn't to bad either. If skiing and education are equally important to you avoid either of those schools.
CC is closer to restorts but both good

I'm speechless...
I feel I should weigh in on this. I have one day left to my first semester at CU.
It isn't the closest to the resorts, but its close enough. If you are interested in getting a good education, come here. If you want to ski all the time, look elsewhere. The nightlife here in Boulder is next to none. More parties than you can shake a stick at, and hotties all over the place. So after spending five days going to class and doing work, its very easy to unwind.
And the campus is unbelievable. So many things to do.
The most important thing if you go to CU is to pick a major. Dont drift around otherwise you'll end up taking 6 years to graduate, and who wants to do that?
I could add more, but you aren't really asking precise questions, so that'll do.
Uhm, I ...... what ........ where....... ah never mind, not worth it.Originally posted by skifreakKDL

Oh yeah, and I am not gonna give my thoughts cause well, I am at cu, know some rippers from CC, and well lets face it, I take too much time off school to be listened to.
"Is it necessary to disdain the affluent Escalade driver in the ski area parking lot just because he never threw caution to the wind and gave up work, meat, and let his hair grow in the surreal international sojourn of powder skiing and self-actualiztion?"
WELL OF COURSE, thats why I am me and you aren't
lax,
you really didn't want to play for Middlebury, did you?
Fer Chrissakes, you don't take off your sweats and see the grass till late April.
or maybe I read you handle the wrong way.![]()

I guess money is not an issue. Middlebury is cha-fucking-ching.
More fucked up than a cricket in a hubcap
Pinner, you must be forgetting the BC terrain that can be accessed through the Golden B at the Broadmoor.
Boulder cannot claim such "in the city limits" terrain.
"The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" --Margaret Thatcher
two of my brothers went to boulder, and I have plenty of friends who went to CC, so I'll throw in some comments, which may be outdated as my younger bro graduated from Boulder in '95...
Anyway- kids from CC seemed to work much harder. That is, they worked. You can coast through CU doing nothing if you want- you can also get a 1st rate education if you want (1 brother on either side of this coin)
Hotter chicks at Boulder- and not EVERYONE is a hippy, but most.
Better skiing @ CC. EVERYONE'S a trustafari (not that there aren;t plenty of rich kids @ CU, or that it's a bad thing)
Biggest difference in the schools is probably the size-
Boulder=big
cc=small
Do you want to see the fat chick you nailed 1st week of freshman year every day for the next four years?
PS- Never known anyone to NOT love going to CU; PLENTY who failed out..
No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent
Middlebury has ugly girls anyway. Although its a good place to meet some rich waspy girl and get hooked up. I was thinking about there, but decided on Colby College
How many NESCAC folks we got out there?
