I thought this thread was going to be about some kind of cell phone scam.

...and I kind of wish it was.

I understand about survival and all, but causing a living creature to suffer like that is inconscionable under ANY circumstances.

I really hope these people die a very prolonged and agonizing death that makes being living shark bait that was on a hook for a day to "bleed out" seem like a day at the carnival.

You're telling me they could not simply kill the animal first so it does not have to suffer, and it would also be effective as bait? I call bullshit. Fukking Fucks.

That is BEYOND sick, cruel, disgusting, evil, and so on. Monsters!

Almost as bad as the irresponsible people who cause over-breeding, abandon their pets to end up in kill pounds and shelters, or drop their dogs off at the shelter because their "kids have moved out and they wanted a true empty nest."
This touchy-feely Kumbaya shit has got to go.

Wow, for once I am very happy to be proven completely gullible. Way to make my day!

hmmm...I hope it is total BS; just the fact that I saw it on National Geographic's website (which, in general I believe to be mostly factual in their reporting) led me to believe there's clout behind it.

However, I would not be suprised if it was true. Dogs are not highly regarded in 3rd world countries (is Reunion Island 3rd world? no idea...)

Why do you say this? I could be mistaken, but I did not see where, in that article, it said that this stuff is not happening. ...just less prevalent than some are trying to make it out to be. To me, if this occured 1X, that would be too much. These guys are assholes who deserve to die by life's most unimaginable wrath.

Here is an article written by Patti Davis for Newsweek:

Okay, if it's not a hoax I still hope the fuckers die a horrific death.
