    Montezuma's Revenge...

Did anyone see that shit on TV Sunday night? 24 hrs in the Montezuma Basin... I think the winner did 170+ miles with over 32,000 vertical climbed- anywhere that's amazing, but on that terrain, that's just plain sick. Has anyone here tried anything like that? They also said one of the chicks was doing it all on a single speed bike.

I watched it a couple years ago when John Stamstad won it and set the world record for 24 hours on an mtb (not sure it still stands). Its totally nuts when they are going over 14'ers with their bikes on their backs, I guess no one has ever completed the whole course in 24 hours? Awesome. Only race badder is the Iditasport Extreme uphere (1100 miles in Feb.) where the motto is "Cowards won't show and the weak will die"!

I know a couple guys who've raced it several times each. Freakin' nuts. One time my bud crashed on the first or second lap and broke a rib...then proceeded to finish top 10 and ride all 24 hours. The other guy who I'm much closer friends with has done it twice. He finished top 10 and did pretty well first try, then the second year got his ass handed to him and sounds like almost went hypothermic, etc...pretty freakin nasty race. Gotta be a different breed to put yourself through that.
