They have good sandwiches, juice, milkshakes and boardgames. I lost a game of monopoly to a freaking socialist when I was there! (There may have been extenuating circumstances)
"Dude... what are you waiting for?"
"Dude, it's your turn."
"..." (long pause) "Are you sure?"
"I think."
"Ok..." (another long pause) "What color am I again?"

That's what I've heard too. My buddy has gone several years in a row and he says it's best to go either the week before or the week after when all the shops still have all their primo goods, but less people.
I would also recomend the 420 Cafe...if you walk straight down the main drag from the train station, pass that bar on the right that has the girls in bikini's dancing on the tables (forget the name but hard to miss) and turn down the side street right after it, the 420 Cafe is on your left down that alley just a little ways. It's cool cause it's pretty much like any small ski town bar, but you can buy weed and it's usually an older, more mature crowd in there...plus they have the Volcano Vape....doesn't get much better IMHO
Will arrive at Schiphol Nov 3 05 at 0.30 p.m. lunchtime on KL 1856 in case you are up for a quick beer. Have to catch the connecting flight at 1.45 though, PM me if you like to hook up briefly.
I have been to Amsterdam during cup week, but I didn't visit any of the "official" venues. During that week, the Melkweg, Bulldog and other tourist shops are insane. For the newbie, this can be a fun thing. If you don't mind the raw weather, November. is a great month in Amsterdam. In the fervor of cup week, the smokables are always top drawer. Also, there are plenty of rockin' bands, progressive movies and sideshows at this time of year. (It sort of reminds me of Park City during Sundance week). Stay away from the crowds and you will do just fine. While the big venues are crowded during cup week, most local shops are still cozy and EXCELLENT. No matter how crowded and trite Amsterdam is during cup week, it is still better than any day during the summer.
During the two year period when I lived full-time in Germany, my wife and I would visit Amsterdam, on average one weekend/month. Our favorite months are Oct. - May.
