Euro Mags: Scarpa Spirit 3 AT Boot??

Need very specific input and audience needed here, so I'm cross posting a piece of this thread.

    http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...d=1#post526100

Have any of you euros skied or tried on the new Scarpa Spirit 3? I have a hard time believeing that any 3 buckle boot is going to perform as well on the downhill as a four buckle, but I would love to hear opinions on how this scarpa model compare to the mega ride and to other dynafit compatible boots. Go out and find a shop with them if you can and report back si vous plez. I think that is europanese for damn fast...but I'm an american so who knows.

For info, I am coming from Denali XTs which have been solid donwhill performers and fit well for me, so wouldn't mind sticking with scarpa.

If you look at the Tornado and the Spirit 3 side by side the shells looks very similar. Might the Spirit be a shaved down Tornado with Dynafit inserts?

    This from Scarpa North America:

"As far as the Spirit 3 is concerned, the current Scarpa distributor has elected to not import this model for the US market. We plan to import the Spirit when we take over distribution for North America in April.

As it has not been in the country, I am sorry, but I cannot tell you exactly how it compares to either the Matrix or Denali, but I hear it is dual-density and fits right between the two. The really cool thing is the buckle system- it spreads forces over more area than current buckles do.

If you want a pair, April will be the soonest, but more realistically, next fall we will have dealers stocking them."

Me thinks that the Spirit 3 looks intriguing...beefier than the matrix, with a little Frankensteining perhaps it is the one.

    - The *UPPER* shells seem almost exactly the same, and are the same as the existing design on the Matrix and Denali TT. So now the Matrix, Spirit 3, Denali TT, and the Tornado will all share very similar upper shells. Lower shell on the Tornado looks quite a bit different though than on the Matrix (which is basically the same design as the Laser, just stiffened a bit, and w/ the additional of the lower buckle platform, or whatever you call it).
Overall, the Spirit 3 looks like a very nice evolution of the almost decade-old Laser platform, and seems to be an ideal boot for those Dynafit users will to drag around a few more ounces on the ascent in exchange for a bit more stiffness on the descent. I'm amazed that we in North America are not deemed worth enough for its distribution here?

The Spirit weighs about 10% more than the Matrix, slightly beefier due to the newer cuff design. Not yet available, although neither is the Tornado. Probably after the first of the year, even in Europe. Fit is supposedly more like the Laser/Matrix than the Denali/Tornado which are slightly higher volume in the forefoot.

Well I flexed one in Cham earlier this year... Seemed stiff'ish mebbe around the same as my G-ride, but then again as a telemarketer what do I know...

if you want a dynafit-compatible boot, the choice between megarides and spirit should probably be driven by the way your feet are made. When I tried them I immediately realized that I was made for garmont and not for scarpa

I've been thinking megarides, but the spirit 3 has extra mystique since it cannot be readily fondled over here. I've been able to use lasers, gsms, and g-rides well enough. Am interested in any info about how these fit, if different from other scarpas, and how they tour, esp rearward range of cuff motion in tour mode. And the usual how-stiff-are-they blah blah

www.pistehors.com has a rudimentary summary - and mention of the new Spirit 4 (Denali replacement) for next year which comes w/ Dynafit fittings!

Saw that, made the spirit 3 extra interesting since the spirit 4 is looking rather hefty and the spirit no longer dynafit compatible

huh, looks like everyone who's been hoping for the dynafit compatible denali will be happy. now, if it only fit me better (denalis fit me more like a shoebox than a shoe, way too much volume)

    Bump.

I can't believe no one out there has tried the Spirit 3, and now the 4 is coming! I started a thread a while back on the Dynafit Aero FR and didn't get many responses. Is there really that little interest on this board in stiffy dynafit compatible boots?

Sooo, what I'm wondering...Spirit 3/4 vs. Aero FR?
