will the Look PX12TI fit Spats?

buheller? anyone? will the Look PX12TI Wide binder fit Spats? Says that the wide brakes fit up to 100mm under foot. I believe that the Spat is wider than 100mm at the waist, and that you typically bend the brakes to fit Spats. But I seem to recall that bending Look brakes was not easy/reccomended?

    Help, pls, and thanks!

you'll have to bend them for sure and i'm not sure about the new looks, but the older p12 brakes weren't super easy to bend from my experience
I've got more suits than Liberace, but less than Eastvailhucker.

Yeah, Spats are just a weeeee bit wider than 100 underfoot. Like, um, 125 or something. I *think* that the deal with the Look brakes is that any of the bindings with the true (ie, old) turntable heel will bend no problem (see slim's legendary thread on how to), but the Pivot's brakes won't bend well. I'm sure someone can say definitively on this, though. You definitely can bend the turntable brakes to fit Spats, they won't have a ton of brakes left sticking down, but it will be enough.

More importantly, do you want to freehand your mount, or use a jig?

I have never understood why Rossi/Look doesn't have a jig for wide-waisted skis.

i have mounted my skis in the past using a jig, but for the Spats, I will take them to a shop in Tahoe and have them "professionaly" done....don't want to screw 'em up, and the metal top sheet makes them tricky (not to mention the width)

I think there is someone over at Granite Chief that has mounted a bunch of Spats.

Not an easy job from what I hear.

I'd go to GC, they did a good job on mine. I would say bring 'em in to Porter's, but our Spatula expert tech is no longer there.
It's heartbreaking to see a chick who's too anorexic.

OK, thx for the feedback guys. So sounds like GC in Truckee is the place to go. If I bring in some Look PXP12's to have mounted, do you think then can bend the brakes to fit too? Or do I have to do that outside the shop b/c of warranty/libality BS?

the same guy who mounted my Sollies on my Spats bent the brakes for me. i asked if i should get wider brakes... and he just laughed. he said just turn them up higher if the skis pop off . in any case, mine work fine... but the brakes barely scratch the snow... then again they have never popped off. YMMV....

Granite Chief mounted my Spatulas about 4mm crooked. I thought they skied a bit weird but chalked that up to being Spatulas -- nope, they're both off center and pointing somewhat to the left.

For $40 I'm not impressed. I freehanded my Diamirs myself and they meet perfectly. Next time I'll buy the special drill bit and do it myself.

Not sure if my response is too late for you, freshies, but when I was living in Tahoe I had my Spatulas mounted (w/ Freerides) @ GC in Truckee. Their head tech (Scandinavian-sounding name that I, sadly, do not recall) did them himself. Great job -- not an easy task (made more complex with the AT binding).

They would not bend the brake for me, but they suggested an easy way to do it. They claimed that if you are attempting to bend the brake too much, it can snap, and they just didn't want that reponsibility.

Not sure if the head tech is in the Truckee store every day, but in my experience it is worth waiting for him.

Hope it works out for you! If the Freeride brakes will fit, I'm sure yours will, too.
