what is happening to our sport?????

Sitting around the basin's lift maze today I heard the most outrageous conversation ever. It was two clean cut teenagers, one 13 and one 17, both from boulder. They were bragging about how many drugs they do and how many times they have been caught, and both are on probation. And the kicker was that they had just meet each other in line. WTF!!!!!! They were obviously both from well to do fam's as they were in the latest top end gear, all hoodlumed out. seriously, the comment was made that that tanner went to jail and what not, they thought it was bragging rights to be like that. What is going on with the future of skiing?

Now, I am by no means a straightedge, trust me on that. But come on, do we need to be portraying hoodlum drugies to be cool will skiing. This worries me greatly, and I can tell you that if any of my groms start talking or acting like that, you can be sure they won't be skiing for my team much longer.

it's not our sport, it is our society.

It seems to me, that it is cool to be a psudo-gangster/cholo.

I'll blame it all on the women......they are after the "bad boys" just like the 50s.....and well, you know, if your a guy, you do what the ladies like!

    just a change of times....!

as for bragging about drug use, and getting caught...that is just thier immaturity.

I drink often, and do drugs more than I should, but I definately don't feel the need to brag about it. Even when I was a teen I didn't brag about it, and didn't even really think it was all that cool. (I'd sober up and shake my head in embarassment and shame at some of the stuff I'd done. I'd then vow to never drink again.)

I don't think it's just skiing. I think it's youth in general. I use public transit a lot, and if I happen to be on a bus right after the schools let out I hear a lot of younger teens bragging about how fucked up the were on the weekend.

There have been people like these kids around since the 70s. You know, too cool to fool. When they are 17, they will probably wrap daddy's Porsche around a tree, and then laugh about it. They will think that it is cool when they get their first DUI, and then again when they knock their first 15 year old up. It's not just skiing, but the breed certainly exists...and thrives, in our sport.

I think you just had a too up-close and personal glimpse into the teenage life. When you grow out of that you forget how cool it feels to think you are a rebel. There is nothing wrong with the sport or society, things are the same today as they always have been. Dumbass teenagers love to brag a feel cool.

Just remember life in general is fucked and we must except that.

Consider the source. If you've done enough drugs you don't talk about it.

Personally, I enjoyed it when a punk got busted throwing a snowball at ski patrol just after ski patrol announced they'd confiscate your pass for 2 weeks for throwing snowballs in the lift line.

That lift line was pretty long, though.

yeah it was pretty long, didn't have to wait in it too many times, patrol lane hook ups were great today. what time did that go down? have to see who the hard ass was.

I don't know, 12:30 or 1, somewhere in that neighborhood. I don't know if the punks pass got taken, but he definitely got chewed out for a while

too old to remember being a kid.
I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...
I come up hard, baby but now I'm cool I didn't make it, sugar playin' by the rules
If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.

an adult I may be, but grown up.... never. still a ski bum, come on. It just really bothered me that they were trying to live up to tanner, no I don't have anything against him. He was more than appologetic when he got arrested. And I have done my fair share of extra ativities, but I was no where near probation when I was 13. my mom would have me beaten, then made me work in the fields for hours on end.

and on that note, I am going to practice being un-grownup by heading out to a kick ass ski burning bonfire.
