--Discussion...Temperatures below are forecast for the peaks and the base, with highs and lows for both. Yesterday's Low/ High_Caples Lake (7,800' and just up the road from Kirkwood); 32/ 37, Similar to the Top; 24/ 30.
--OVERALL SITUATION TODAY>>> Chilly and showery with some west winds as low pressure is on its last leg across the northwest US. Moisture decreases today, and scattered snow showers continue tonight. Light snow accumulation is expected above 7,000 feet, and mostly at 7,500 feet and higher.
--TOMORROW THROUGH 6 DAYS>>> Saturday - Isolated snow showers in the morning, then clearing fast with partly cloudy skies under a fast moving "zonal" wind flow pattern.
Sunday, Monday - Eastern Pacific high pressure ridges in aloft with warming and drying expected.
Tuesday - High pressure starts weakening, with warm temperatures and west winds developing in the afternoon.
Wednesday and Thursday - A fairly strong early season low pressure system (storm) moves in with scattered to numerous snow showers developing, and snow down to the valley floor (lake level, near 6,000 feet). A stronger and colder looking storm may hit next weekend (Sat - Mon, 5th - 7th) with significant snowfall possible base to top...we will be watching.
