    Ski Survey

Here are a couple of CU students trying to get a custom ski company going.

    -----------------------
We're CU students working on a company that builds custom skis. As part of a class, we are developing a scientific fitting process along with a technology
based ski fitting system. We would take a series of measurements and ask some questions to determine what would be the optimum ski design for an individual. We would then build a ski just for you.

Since many of you are skiers, we could really use your help with our survey. It
only takes 10 minutes to fill out and would help us immensely. Please click on
the link below or type the address into your browser to begin the survey

    URL address link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=283791405495

Please help us make our survey a success! We are asking all of our friends to
please pass this survey along to other skiers they know. We would like to
survey the widest group of skiers possible.

Enter your email at the end of the survey to be eligible for subscriptions to
various ski magazines and a GoLite Delirium Ski/Mountaineering Pack! We look
forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

    Best wishes,

    Eric

Under magazines, I mentioned my interest in Trailer Whore Monthly. I hope that doesn't skew the survey.

Yeah, so I would like this uber-ski, and I want a button to expand them to 223s from 165s! Oh, and I want the graphics to change every 5 seconds, ooooooh and be able to change the camber in run. Schweet!

I'm no expert in the costs involved with ski construction, but I find it difficult to believe that it's even possible to develop a completely custom pair of skis for $1200. Even if you could produce a custom pair of skis for that price, there's no way that you could have indefinite changes made to it. It's not like you could just trim a little here and there, you'd have to completely remake the ski. It's a good thought, just not feasible.

Exactly many people dont realise is that every pair of skis comes out of a mold, and those molds are VERY expensive. Making a pair of custom skis for $1200.00 would only allow you to take a "stock" ski and alter the flex slighlty, you can not make hudge changes in the skis flex pattern or stiffness without altering the mold for the modified laminate stack. Changing sidecut profiles is out of the question, unless you have the balls to drop even more cash on an already expensive mold.
