But they sent out an update email like 10 minutes ago. Haven't read it yet, but am currently talking to the guy sending them out.

    dp news

    This is the newsletter;

    "Hi,

We are writing to give you an update on the happenings at dpskis.com. (if you are unfamiliar with the transition between db and dp click here)

The new website will be up by November 1st. The launch has been delayed due to a major manufacturing decision that occurred in the middle of August. Even with skis in the pipeline for fall under our old manufacturing arrangement, dp decided to leave its old partnership and source its own manufacturing in order to secure its long term success.

    What does this mean?

It means we will take yet another short term hit in terms of deliveries, but that we will be better positioned to deliver the skis of our dreams well into the future. It's important we get this right now, instead of suffering through more delivery mediocrity later on.

    When will skis be available?

There are no definite promises right now, but we hope to be delivering in good quantity by the middle of February. The new manufacturing situation will allow us get things done far more quickly than ever before, to producer faster, and with more consistent quality. We are excited about it.

Will the skis be the same?

The skis will be better. Shifting manufacturing has allowed us to redesign the entire lineup, evolve the construction, and add two more shapes to the quiver. Every shape has been tweaked, and fine-tuned into what we feel is the strongest quiver ever designed. Every tip radius, flex profile, and camber line has been engineered to fit individual ski geometry. We feel like these new skis will create a benchmark for the new era of powder skiing.

What about my existing reservation, and if I want to keep it?

Once the site launches on October 26th, you will be asked to re-key your reservation through the website or by phone so that all administrative information is current, up-to-date, and centralized. If you re-key your order before December 1st, you will maintain your current position on the reservation list, and will be the first to receive the new skis.

You can also call us at +47 95 84 74 68 to reconfirm your order at anytime.

We are currently estimating February delivery for reservation list customers. We will build a limited number of skis for the 05/06 season, so reconfirmed reservations will ensure your spot. No deposit will be required when you re-key your reservation. However, you will need to provide all your shipping and billing information to hold your spot, and can cancel at anytime prior to your ski's shipment.

    Best,
    Tobias Liljeroth - dpskis.com"

*can't manage to get the pictures copied in here*

    The changes to the line up are;
    A new spatula-like lotus with a 138mm waist
The swallow tail of the tabla has become a twin tip
    A new wailer with a 105 waist.

Otherwise it looks pretty much the same, shapewise anyway. Should be interesting.

    Thumbs up

    Good info there, Kanutten.

So now we know what's going on on the Drake side of things. Anyone know anything about how the Boinay people are getting on?

I know they have hooked up with a european carbonfibre manufacturer, and also that they are working with a swiss university. I know that they have made prototypes of the surreal.

That is about all I know. My feeling is that they are a little behind drake in terms ofgetting skis to the market. So maybe next season (06/07) is more realistic.

The best of luck to both of them...

    right

kanutten seams to know a little bird singing from the tree...

but one thing is wrong, it is not the "boinay side" as arno is putting it. there is a network of skiers and engineers involved to build the ultimate big mountain skis.

we are focussing on carbon skis produced in europe, this takes time and money.

the launch of the first model is foreseen next september (06), after testing our innovations in the lab and on the mountain.

    hasta luego

Edit: The european side has NOT (to my knowledge) made a prototype of the surreal. As far as I remember the european side is focussing on a tabla-like ski.

The dp guys have made a prototype of the surreal - and probably more skis also by now.

    dp launch update:

Vinnay, sorry for missing your b-day..it's launching now...it should start appearing on browsers this afternoon.

It's been a crazy road...essentially starting from scratch with both a new company and boards and doing it all at hyperspeed in a couple of months. There is still a tremendous amount of work to do, lots to organize and catch up on, and it will all take some time and patience, but the crew is really good, and we are excited about the future and working hard to make it something special.

We were trying to be obscure, invisible and off-the-radar-screen until February 06 when the first run of skis is scheduled to be completed and in stock...but such is the internet

To tide you over until this afternoon, a proto photo. The ski on the left is a 185cm Wailer 95- full carbon laminate- the new mold is beautiful with tip and tail profiles exactly the way we want them.

The ski on the right is the first Lotus 138- another shape we are super excited about. Pete Turner, head of dp production, was the cheif engineer at Volant, the Spatula engineer, and a guy who has a passion for deep snow- really the perfect fit for dp. On the Lotus we worked to combine the merits of both the spatula and tabla rasa. It has 600mm of tip rocker, 500mm in the tail, and the slightest hair of sidecut combined with a flat section underfoot for stability and more mixed-snow versatility. Carbon fiber, but of course:

The sound of breaking glass everyone just heard was just the professor’s boner breaking his computer monitor as he humped your post dp. Fatties over 190 make him uhh…er… happy. Yeah, happy.

If that's you, Drake, you otta know well enough by now that you can't hide from the interweb. But at least you know that if you're going to check in, a pic of a new model is worth it's weight in good karma. Never heard back from CY, but I'll be home in a week or two and we should ketchup.
