    Imagine: Parents+Hurricane+Incommunicado

Imagine that your parents lived in the path of a hurricane. Imagine that they packed up and left and didn't tell anyone where they were going. Imagine that you tried to get in touch with them and failed for over a week. Imagine that after the storm ended, they returned to their place and you got in touch with them.

What would you say to them?

I'd tell them I was happy they were alright. Isn't that what's important?

"I am so glad that you are ok. But know that I was really really concerned about you and when I couldn't locate you, I was very worried about your wellbeing. In the future, if you are able to, keeping me informed in a situation like this would help me to feel better."

Just think of all of the times that you didn't come home or didn't call and they gave you the "we are worried but glad that you are ok". Now take that speech, subtract the part about how they won't be leaving the house until they are married if they ever pull shit like that again, and hand it back to them.

    A. Buy them a cell phone

    B. Teach them to use it(turning it on is a start- I'll have to teach my parents that one.)

    C. If they still don't call next time, bitch slap 'em.

I feel your pain. My folks go missing all the time, with no word. Payback is a bitch, but I was always considerate about calling them. I might have been lying about where I was, but I always let them know I was alive.

I called my Dad before they left and threatened him that if he didn't let me know when they left, where they were going, and keep his cellphone charged, that I was putting him straight into a home.
They returned today to no power, but very little damage.

My grandmother once moved to Ohio and didn't tell us, or anyone else, for about three months.

I talked to my mom today. She's ok. Bought a generator at home depot for cash. Runs the whole house. But thanks for worrying. Maggots rule.

My parents moved while I was at school and they didn't tell me. I didn't find out until my brother picked me up at the airport and I told him he was going the wrong way home.

    "No I'm not," he said.

Hey, that sounds like my parents.

    Telephone: ring, ring
    Me: hello
Mom: hi, since you're coming over for dinner could you stop by the hospital and see how dad is doing?

If it was important then they would have called.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Ding! Ding! I can't count how many times I've tried to call a parental unit and the phone is off. "But I only turn it on when I need to call someone!"

I love you, I was out of my mind with worry and imagining you were hurt or even dead, and if you ever do that again you will be.
I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.

If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.
