our inbounds hightraverse gets more yellow every year, I guess more traffic will do that. The thing only takes about 5-8 minutes for expert sidesteppers or snowboard-walkers and its easy to get up there ten or more times in a day for better snow and longer lines. Many of the folks that wander up there are not expert sidesteppers and may do the highT but once or twice a day on their one day of skiing that week. I think its these types that pee all over the traverse sometimes thinking they are way out by themselves and then I'm steppin on their tails while they're zipping up and tucking in. Anyway the trees that we use get bad enough and I feel like its my living room they're peeing in cuz I gotta look at the yellow burn holes all day everyday. Off topic slightly as this forum is inherently BC related but the ethic sticks with me and I try to keep it white for all who may follow.

and if there's plenty of room on a big white canvas I don't see why we'd have to cross tracks. Within reason I attempt to avoid any that are already there, I think this sense is of course elevated when you know the tracks will be seen. High profile powderfields or faces I like to see each line on its own, seems like higher style points are awarded for not needing to cross another guys line to complete your own. Lower down or continuous treeshots, meh, ski where ya wanna...

i'd laugh my ass off if elderly farmer dave started shooting poacher skeet. "PULL" "boarder on your left...MISS, but you peppered his ass"

really, what's wrong with giving an old guy some space to do what he loves. it's not like most of you sidecountry weekend warriors can even get back to where he lays his art down.

    Slim,
I went back and read the whole thread and I’ll be damned if I can find anyone that said they take bc etiquette more seriously than safety. I also couldn’t find anyone that said they care about it SO much that they let it ruin their day.

I think cj001f hit the nail on the head, being considerate (and using common sense) goes a long way.

Ps- Just because I endorse the “no crossing tracks” rule doesn’t mean I like to spoon. I’ll spoon if I have too but for the most part I don’t like being confined and told where I can and cannot turn. You can still have the freedom to pick your own line and ski it the way you like (g/s turns, tight turns, no turns). Just use common sense.

Here is what you get when you don't...a mess.

The skier appears to be attempting to stay in the fresh but what the heck were the people before him thinking? Going from left to right. The first guy goes, fine. Second track, why the hard skiers right across the track? What’s up with the track going across the slope for no reason at all?

Crossing tracks is less fun than not, shows a lack of style, and makes for poor pictures in my humble opinion.
But…I will in no way ever-ever let it ruin my day.

I try to hold my tongue on this board, as I see a bunch of bizarre comments posted here day after day, but this one has to be one of the lamest things I've heard in a long time.

    Holy shit.

    Slippy,

If you knew me in person you’d know not to take everything I say on the internet toooo seriously.

Ps. Don’t you work for a film company or something? When you are filming and the second skier goes, is it better for them to ski their own line or zig-zag and make turns all over the first skiers track?

You know the answer to that one, but we are skiing for completely different reasons when shooting. If someone has no choice but to cross a track while filming, it's not that big of a deal. And they certainly don't bunny hop over it.

As for skiing for fun, I've never even thought about how crossing a track is going to annoy someone until seeing this thread. Who cares, it'll all be erased by the next storm. For me it's about skiing down, not how your tracks look afterwards or for someone else to see. But hey, do watcha gotta do.
