To do in Seattle and Vancouver?

I leave this Wed to make the drive from Colorado to Vancouver where I have a couple weekends of an OEC course mixed in with a little Patrol training down near Seattle. But I'm going to have a few weeks of spare time thrown in. The plan is to patrol for the winter, but I don't think thats really gunna start kicking until late november. I have no money, nowhere to live, and my entire life is in my car. And I'm not seeing a paycheck for a while. And I know a grand total of zero people in the British Columbia - Washington area. So if anyone's looking for a rock/ice/alpine/ski/mountaineering partner, shoot me a pm.

In Van you can stay at the Cambie Backpackers for free if you carry a sandwich board for 2hrs a day (usually spent by most hanging at Stanley Park). The Cambie also has a sweet bar with copious women and a $5 cheese burger/pint of beer deal. Mix that with Bon's on Broadway's monster $2.75 all day breakfast (bacon, potatoes, toast, eggs) and you've considerably cut down your Vancouver food/accom./booze bill.

If you are looking to climb, check out cascadeclimbers.com that or turnsallyear.com should turn you up something.

Can I just walk in and say I'm here for the sandwich board? I was planning on just staying in the car but I would be down for an actual bed for a day or two.

If there's snow in the mountains Id be happy to go hiking for turns and show you around. There's lots of cheap places to stay - bum food - etc in Vancouver.

If you want to do something to tide you over in Vancouver and keep fit then Ive got a buddy who needs a casual laborer - driving a bobcat - shovelling stuff. It'll pay 15 an hour and you'll be able to stay at the warehouse. It'll keep you in shape.

    Pm me if interested.

count me in if the predicted precip pans out into glorious snowfall
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature... Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. -Helen Keller

I've been a Crustal regular for longer than I'd like to admit.

The "uh oh" is a tongue in cheek remark with the not so subtle inference of "oh no, I'll get busted more easily because someone will know me...." Or something like that.

Maybe you should refer to my "Soft Closure" post from last year at Crystal.

Happy to have you part of the family though. Good luck.

MRNP tried force the USFS to close Crystal's boundary last year. A bunch of us appealed and threatened to sue, so the USFS and Park backed down.

The rumor is that they will try to close it again.

Yep. They will find another angle I'm sure....and I have more spare time to make it difficult.
