    914 to 997 mounting question

I've just picked up a pair of 997 equipes that i'm going to mount on my nordica beast 188's which are presently fitted with 914 fis 20's ( pre-release hell).

The mounting patterns of the heel pieces on both are identical on both apart from the extra central 5th hole on the 997.

Is it fully necessary to drill and screw this or can you just operate on the 4 existing holes like the 914 and leave the 5th out of the equation completely?

nah, you can just mount it with 4 and you'll be ok. i did the same a while back when mounting a pair of 997s in a set of 912 holes.

Or just go to a shop and ask nicely. They'll probably drill out the extra hole at no cost.

Yeah, why the hell not drill the fifth hole. It is one of the many things that makes that binding worthwhile.

    Thanks for the help.

I think i'm going to get the 5th hole drilled. If it was designed with 5, you'd better use 5 i suppose.

This is cake. There is no reason to go to a shop unless you don't have arms. Mount the existing 4 screws to the ski. Then you have the binding marking the exact placement of the final hole for you. Grab a drill with a bit slightly thinner than the screw and proceed gently. I've done this with several sets of skis. Just takes a few minutes and you're ready to go. I too had problems with the newer solly binders and went back to the 997s.
