Question Advice pls...skis needed, Volkls or ?

5'9" 165 31yo with about 90% of my time spent in Quebec on-piste (albeit lots of trees and moguls), sometimes out west but no tele. I teach regular and freestyle (have Dynamic twins already) so know my stuff, but am more on the advanced than expert side for being a bit lazy or hungover most weekends.

Last four years my main sticks were Volkl Vertigo G3 167s, they were very nice for my needs: stiff for the crud and ice of which we have lots, short for the bumps and trees, good sidecut for the turns and teaching.

I'd like to stick with Volkl or something similar, and am now in the market if anyone has either advice or something to sell. Currently considering Explosivs (163), B3s (178), 1080s (171)...don't like buying without trying, but trust good opinions. Anyone?

    K2 Recon

It sounds like your looking for one ski to do it all. One of the best out there now is probably the k2 apache recon. Probably in a 174 cm but if you wanted to go bigger you could ski the 181 but it might be long. Another option from k2 could be the outlaw. It carves well but is much wider so it is not as quick edge to edge and harder to ski in the bumbs.

    Good Luck

If you like volkls, you might want to look for a good deal last year volkls. There are some good deals on 724 Pros and 5/6 stars out there.

Since you are 90% on piste and skiing on eastern hard pack/ice, I would lean toward skis with better edge hold. If I was still skiing back east (something I refuse to do anymore, sorry dad) my 6 stars would be my every day ski, not my Bandit XXX

My dad instructs back east he and many of the other instructors really like the 5 star for instructing.

Hopefully, you can do some early season demos.

    Good luck.

    .....

ditto the "Tech Talk", but if I were teaching...I'd want one for teaching(less an Explosiv, more carving-all_mtn)...and then one for deeper, new snow = more towards the Explosiv.
    ...but then I don't have the creds...so...
