    Slightly off center heel mount

    Hey guys,

Just got my Mantra's mounted and noticed that the turntable heel on my P18's is mounted slightly off center. I measured the toes and they're fine (within a mm or two), but the heel is about 3-4mm off. I read somewhere this won't make a huge difference as the heel can center the boot to the toe when locked in (due to the turntable). I'm not too worried, but thought I'd throw it out there. Thoughts?

There's no excuse for a crappy mount. Even if it doesn't affect the way you ski (I'm not sure if it does or not), you paid to have something done right and it obviously wasn't. I mean, they're using a f'ing jig, I would be pissed.

That's what I thought. I'll put it out of my head and just ski 'em. I'm sure I've had slightly off center mounts before, but it's just easier to see on a fatter ski...

I'd be pissed but that is just me. They may be using a bent jig. In any event they may continue to screw up other customer’s skis until the problem it brought to their attention. Bottom line, shizzy cost too much these days to have them screw up my mount. I'd ask for a new pair and remount for sure.

Brought 'em back. Getting a new pair. Looks like it's the new Rossi jig that's off. The tech just got the jig and showed me as he placed it on the ski. It was off by 3-4mm. I guess he should have measured the holes as well, but he trusted the new jig.....

You owe the tech a 6-pack for treating you right. Granted the guy is just doing his job the way its supposed to be done, but he did you right in going to bat with management and Look/Dynastar/Volkl to replace your ski. Enjoy, its a great ski and a fun ride.

If the measurement from one edge vs. the other was 3-4 mms, the binding
was only 1 1/2- 2 mm off. I wouldn't like it either, but it really isn't much.
Probably worse is the idea with the heel being off is the bindings are off the
CL lengthwise. Folks talk about jigs as if the were foolproof, but they get
banged up, the inserts become worn and not replaced, they (sounds like this case) are poorly manufactered. It is a good idea to check the shopwork,
a big shop is pushing out a good amount of work, these guys don't have or aren't given the time to check....

I'll get him some beer for sure....My tech is also the shop owner. He said he'll just use my old sticks as demos....

I mounted one heel piece on my Lines a little off; they are centered on the ski but the base is turned slightly. Same style bindings. I mounted them by hand without a jig and that is where the f-up came from. The turntable piece sits just fine on the boot, though. I don't think you will ever notice it, unless you let it bother you.

edit: I didn't read far enough to see the remedy. Sorry.
