Well, shit. That's not what I wanted to hear. Doctor's visit report

Maybe it should be in the Gimp central, but I don't care right now.

No soccer, no football, no basketball, no ultimate, no MTB, no bc skiing and no skiing off piste at least until Febuary.

The spleen injury is still very apparent in the most recent CT scans and the doctor is still really concerned about reinjury of the spleen or another head impact.

On the plus side, I'm allowed to ride a road bike again (yes, that's what started everything), and I'll be allowed to ski groomers when snow hits the slopes, but "only under absolutely complete control."

    Fucking bus drivers.

    Lightbulb

Tell that quack to cut it out. No sense in letting a non-vital organ get in the way of ski season.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Hey, at least it wasn't your ACL to go!!! Just kidding. Seriously, Nater, positive vibes to you again. It sounds like your issue is time, sweet time.

But please do yourself a favor, and when you ride your road bike, do it on the designated bike trail from downtown Sac to Folsom, not on the streets. Just watch out for the bums. Then again, at least they're not bus drivers!!

Are you in West Sac now? It would be nice to know that you moved, and you have a new address.

[Insert joke about giving up that hippy skiing and getting some real bindings]

Sorry to hear the news Nater. Still it's not all that bad. There's still a lot of season left once February rolls around. Besides, think of all the money you'll save on gas.

Dammit. Sorry to hear this buddy.

This probably isn't much consolation right now, but Divegirls' right, you need to lap up the AR bike trail as much as you can. It will get you in great shape with very little impact...with very little risk of injurying something else by coming back to hard to fast and all that crap. From where you're at the trail is probably 60-ish miles out from your place, all the way up to Beal's Point and back. Hell it might even be more. I won't be around this weekend, but I'll roll out there with ya when I'm around. The AR trail is actually pretty damn nice in the winter when it's cool and all the hills around are green....trust me on that one Then when you get bored with that there's awesome hilly rides around my house...and then we'll go and ride Iowa Hill. Trust me...that bastard ain't to be messed with. Drop me a message, we're due to go grab a beer somewhere's.

It's hard to see right now, but within this cloud that you think's followin you around there's a great big fat fucking shiny silvery lining in there too in that you have a great chance to come back in February in better shape than you'd imagine. And that'll make the rest of the season so fuckin sweet...and there's a lot of season left from February onwards....

Nater - sorry to hear that, but Mr. Shoelaces is right. There is something to be said for all of that, although skiing would be nice too I agree with Chill Winston though, that a mellow bc tour is much safer than groomers at Kirkwood - maybe some XC skiing too. There's so much out there to indulge in, and a silver lining in being forced to see beyond our normal winter paradigms. Hang in there, and +++ vibes

I'll third mellow BC being safer than groomers. Hell, mellow off-piste is safer than groomers. Also, as Kellie suggested, get into XC skiing, take your Nordic Nerdness to the extreme.

Thanks guys. I'll be getting in lots of miles on my recumbent starting this weekend commuting to Davis from West Sacramento.

And, we'll have to see about the mello bc tours. The doc was pretty emphatic about avoiding further abuse and not wanting to be away from rapid medical care if something did happen. The hard part is that I'm feeling pretty damn healthy, but I've got this bum organ that's pretty directly attached to the aorta so if it gets busted I could be screwed.

I wish I could argue with it, but the big dark splotch that nearly bisects my spleen in the CT scans from two weeks ago really can't be argued with. Heck, I'm scared about the bicycle commute that has to share a piece of the road with trucks.

I'll be the guy on a recumbent with a big orange flasher on the back and dorky flag above me......

Bummer, nate. Surround yourself with good people and the days will fly.

That news sucks, sorry to hear it. Saying "No, I can't go" to your friends all the time sucks too, because they plead (which is meant well) and you have to say "No" a few hundred different ways over the course of the season.

My $0.02 is get a pair of slalom skis (I had fun last year dinking around on a pair of Rossi 9S oversize) and then train everyone to lie their asses off for your well-being. Old wake up call--Dude get out of bed it's puking; New wake up call--Dude the upper mountain's on wind hold. Old tactic--C'mon, [insert tour] is going off; new tactic--We're gonna take a hot chocolate break and we'll see you later.

So sorry Nate. I can relate a bit - I think you're feeling now about how I felt after 3 months of PT when I found I needed surgery and would be out for 4 more months. I think I managed to squeeze in about all of 3 days on the hill between the two set backs. I'm with you, Nate.

Keep hanging in there. If you need some relaxation on the coast, come on down!!
