    Fuck Knees

I was just messing around on my hardtail, hitting a little jump at the shop. I got the bike tabletopped off the jump, and couldn't bring it back underneath me, I instinctively put my right foot down when I landed casuing my knee to do some funky twisting. This is the knee that is sans ACL (can't have surgery until the spring), and it hurts like a biotch. Am I probably doing some cartilage damage when I do something to make my knee unstable?

Yep...This kid has two reconstructed ACL's and you are likely damaging cartilage. Let me guess...lot's of swelling too?

I partially tore my MCL this spring. Knee doc said that I *could* continue to ski w/o MCL, but the chances of causing injury to other ligaments increase greatly. Wasn't worth the risk to me.

Do you have a rigid (hinged) brace for that knee?

Take lots of ibuprofen for a few days. Ice it immediately -- right now -- and tomorrow.

Yep, I've got a CTI brace. Right now I'm going with the ice and ibuprofen and it's feeling a bit better. There's no worse feeling than having your knee just slide around on you. I was seeing stars. No real swelling, I think because I iced and ibuprofed right away. In reality, this thread should be called "Fuck Health Insurance", because I should have had my knee fixed last spring.

after yrs of abuse, my knees ache after any hard play. someone mentioned taking glucosomine. it supposedly helps stop cartilage degenration and promotes cartilage growth. I started taking it and feel no difference, but Im told it wont take for a month or two. worth a try. who knows?

once the ACL is torn it really wreaks havoc on the rest of your knee. meniscal damage, articular cartilage damage, other ligament damge, you name it.....

stick with the ice for now and be easy on the Ib's, make sure to take them with food.

I was lucky - my wreck during mountaincross when I decided not to wear my braces ended up "only" being an MCL strain that healed up relatively quickly. But damn, I wanted to beat my head against a rock after deciding not to wear the brace because I was "only qualifying" when my wheel freaking fell off on the finish line jump.

Ok, maybe there are worse things, but feeling like your patella is next to the top of your tibia is right up there.
