I picked up mountain biking at the end of last season to keep me occupied until this season starts, but about 2 weeks ago the jones kicked in. It wasn't something that slowly crept up on me, but I just woke up one morning and skiing was the only thing on my mind. Since then I've had a difficult time falling asleep because of all the skiing related things on my mind....what new skis do I want, when is the season going to start around here, and of course the one thought that keeps me up more than any other is the decision I need to make about moving out west to pursue my passion.

Edit: Minddoc...based on your screen name is it safe to assume that you could hold group therapy sessions for us in live chat?
I don’t think it would be ethical to do group therapy with the people here as I suffer from the same pathology. However, I should add as long as your not quitting your job (that you need) leaving your kids (thank god I don’t have kids!), and functioning fine in your daily living then there are no real worries. But… for me I am beginning to suffer at work and school. Hearing these stories helped me focus a bit more today.

ps one more year until I'm a Ph.D. but I do practice as a therapist. I can’t call myself a real psychologist until 2007

I wish I was still into riding, that’s why I stopped skiing so much. Now I don’t even what to think about riding bikes, although I still do. Racing bicycles really keeps your mind off skiing; I did a few this summer for kicks.

Anyone who knows me will tell you obsessing is a year-round preoccupation--annoying to the non-addicted, but completely understood by everyone on this forum, I suspect. This time of year is one of ambivalence to me. On one hand, the longing is definitely more acute the closer to THE season, but it is the sweetest pain, being able to start planning for trips, seeing you fellow sufferers again!

As for you, Sprite, I remain jealous of all of you who are able to dream about being on snow, since it is rare that I remember such a dream. But anyway, feel free to torture me with any descriptions of what your sleeping imagination has come up with.

Well, I figured a way to get my mind off skiing! I met this great woman, she's perfect in everyway and my thoughts about skiing have dropped in half. Now I'm dreaming about skiing more, which is nice I made some great lines last night and was able to ski in Co. So if you can't get skiing off the mind try finding a woman. Looks like some good snow for Tahoe today! Oh, she loves skiing as well!

I have one pair of skis mounted on the wall over my bed, along with my helmet. My new pair of fat twin tips is leaning against my bookshelf taunting me every morning when I get up, I have a picture of the back side of Alta(never been there it just looks fucking amazing) as my desktop on both of my monitors, and everynow and then I take my boots out of the closet and put them in various places around my room just for the fun of it. The only mags on my desk are ski mags and one of the first things I do when I get home from work is jump on here looking for TRs with pictures.

Awesome! I've got a little longer to wait. It's going to be after Christmas before I make it to the snow. But, if all goes well between now and then, I'll have five weeks at Jackson Hole! WOOT!!!

I actually have 2 days from hiking in PA so far, but that was only a taste.

I'm shocked to say that I already got my first day in on the EC...in powder no less! So how can I complain. But yes, I'm still obsessing. Though a little less than before as I've had my fix and my current real estate hagglings are proving to be a bit of a distraction too.

I was obsessed. Then I went skiing last weekend and now it's worse.

I got kinda the same vibe going although I bet you got to ski quite a bit more vertical than me. Hey we both went skiing in October that is pretty great, and turn is turn no matter where it happens.

I resolve PC issues remotely. Need to get rid of all that pr0n you downloaded on your work laptop? Or did you just get a ton of viruses from searching for "geriatic midget sex"? Either way I can fix them. PM Me for maggot prices.

We spent a lot more time hiking than skiing, if that makes it any better.

Even though my time in the PNW is limited, I'm not gripping. There's a shitload of snow coming our way and I'll have 3 weeks after my last day at work (11/11) to hit, Mt. Hood, Crystal, W/B, and, I hope, Baker. After that, I'll have a steady diet of Mammoth to look forward to.
