    get to a hospital, NOW.

that venom will cause your skin to melt away, like the acid on ALIENS or something. Just a lot more slowly (over the span of several days).

    Yeah go right now.

If you have ever seen a picture of an untreated bite you would go as fast as you can.

    Seriously...right now. go. now...

Dude. Ignore that poison control lady. You need treatment within 24hrs of the bite for your best hope of avoiding necrosis. GO TO THE ER NOW.

    learn to google bitch

    ...sorry, had to

sounds as though there's no getting around the fact that you were bit by one, which totally sucks. I hope your body doesn't react to it too badly. Good luck, and get well.

If the wound is becoming necrotic, it will often begin to turn purple within 24 hours. If the skin does turn purple, it is likely that necrosis is on the way and will then turn black as the cells die.
Go to the ER. Call a friend for a ride. Don't fuck around.

Be extremely prepared to get to the hospital ASAP if things get worse. Did you smash the spider or can you identify it to a doctor?

Agreed. Dont' fuck around with Wardenburg either. I'd go to Boulder right now. You'll sleep better tonight knowing you did.

Calling ahead helps sometimes... if you get the "brown recluse? i saw that on tv once" reaction you might try the next facility.

    Phish: "I got bit!"
MD: "Lay off the acid, hippie!"
Phish: "There's pointy fangs under my skin!"
MD: "Lay off the crack pipe, BIATCH!"
Phish: "C'mon man! Gimme some drugs! I suck yo dick!"
MD: "I have nurses for that. They are way hotter than you."
Phish: "Then check out my shit ya prick! That's what I'm paying you for!"
MD: "Here. Read this HIPPA document. It will make you feel better... or die of boredom... or something."

So didn't you tell the doc that the thing itches and burns etc? (I would expect a recluse bite would be doing that by now). I thought you said you had swelling around the site. Do you have a blister or ulcer forming on the site?

The doctors response to your injury is pretty standard. Insect bites are VERY common on an ER setting, and are frequently not treated at the first visit. Not to downplay your possible situation, but it is uncommon to receive an antibiotic prescription at first visit.

When I lived in Arizona we would get scorpion, black widow, recluse, rattle snake, and all sorts of other nasty vermon bites in the ER on a daily basis. Black widow bites seemed to be the worst of the crop, with the patients usually being admitted overnight for pain control.

Keep an eye on it, if you get red streaking, increase swelling, large areas that are red and warm to the touch compared to surrounding skin, then go back. Those would be signs of cellulitis (infection).

If it were to get infected, they would do one of a couple of things.
    1. Oral antibiotics, such as Keflex.
    2. Intramuscular injection of antibiotics such as Ancef, followed by oral antibiotics.
    3. IV antibiotics of Ancef every 8 hours until improvement, then oral antibiotics.

    Hope that helps.
