    stupid thorns

So I just moved to Colorado Springs from Nh and I've been having a problem with thorns getting stuck in my tires (front and rear). I never had the problem until I come out here and I'd say that 1 in 5 rides puts slow leaks that cause my tires to be flat by the next night, but I don't notice anything on the ride.

I'm running Mythos XC's at 45ish psi.Sometimes more sometimes less, depends on where I'm planning on riding.

Is that PSI to high for out here, does it make the tire more solid letting the thorns poke through. Are my tires just thin POS's that can't take the heat? Its happened with a few different tubes, so i don't think those are the problems. The holes are tiny, annoying and I'm getting sick of patching them multiple times a week.

When i got my bike in CO, i got flats front and back right away. Goat thorns...

I use thin tubes, with that tapa that goes around the tubes. haven't got a flat yet.

I never had that prob in CO but here in CA it is a virtual epidemic. I asked the local shops and they all concurred that rim strips are the way to go...as opposed to tubeless/ghetto stan's like I was thinking. I bought the strips but have yet to install them yet.

Or you can do what I do and use ultra heavy thorn resistant tubes.

Makes them a bit heavy when you're climbing, but you have to work to flat them.

Buy some Stans, deflate tube completely, put in some extra stans, spin the wheel, and then reinflate the tube. Just try to get a coating of Stans all over the tube however you can do it. Not foolproof, but every bit helps. Try that with the tape and you should be better off at least.
The older I get, the better I was.
