I'm trying to figure out how to allocate my time and money this winter.
Possibilities:
-Straightline camp in December
-PNW Summit
-Cham in mid to late January
-Aspen in (not sure when)
-Alaska in April
-last-minute trip to wherever it's dumping
-other
If I went to Alaska I'm not sure I could afford any other trips out west or to Europe.
Airfare isn't nearly as inexpensive as last season, which makes long weekend getaways a poor value and favors one or two long trips vs 3 or 4 shorter ones.
Cham would be with some people that know the mountain real well. Probably wouldn't need to pay for a guide, but still it's cham - it's expensive.
I picked up some good tips at Gordy's camp last year. I could definitely use more. I'm still much closer to gaper status than rockstar. With it being so early in the year though, I will probably be tapped out before the end of each ski day, which means I wouldn't be learning as much as I could be.
I'm not sure I'm good enough to enjoy Alaska as much as I would in say three or four years after some improvement and experience.
Aspen would be with good non-mag friends, with whom I'd like to vacation, but the skiing experience would be far from ideal unless I found some mags to ski with for a majority of the days.
Alaska would exceed my budget, but I could probably stretch it out for that. I don't know exactly what my budget really is, but I think I have enough time and money for cham and whistler/pnw (probably 10 days of travel each) or 3 trips that are less expensive (and shorter).
