    mounting alpine to tele?

i've mounted alpine binders (914s) to a pair of atomic tele-daddies in the past and loved the ski (the ski was the exact same construction as the alpine version, sugar, except without that stupid atomics binder only plate). i have a good lead on a karhu jak, supposedly the same as the line mothers (flite or tit??). did i just get lucky the first time? concerns? others' experiences?

if you like a ski alpine then you should also like it for tele,

assuming that your ability on both is similar,
that you are mounting it for about the same place on the ski,
and that you are using similar boots/bindings.

just if it is mounted tele you have one more direction to fall over

Many ppl have Jaks mounted alpine. Finding the best place to drill is tough.

I had Jaks for a while mounted alpine, and hated them. Maybe others had better experiences, but they just didn't feel right in the soft stuff.

I've had 2 pairs of Jaks - the BC (sold them this past spring) and now the regular Jak - mounted with freerides. Not quite an alpine binder, but anyway... I followed Karhu's recommendations on mounting position for the boot center mark on their website and things have worked very well. Not sure if an alpine binder would ski differently, but I've been very happy with the Jak/freeride setup thus far for pow/corn/crud.

edit: BTW, just fyi, the Jak and Teledaddy are quite different skis in my opinion.

lots of people do the AT on tele, but not so many alpine on Tele. That being said, my all time favorite setup thus far has been... The 914s on the Teledaddy's. FYI, I do believe this year's Sugars are basically the same still, and Atomic has since dropped the plate. So, not only could you go back and rebuild the same setup again with the child of the Teledaddy (Januk? Something like that), you do it with the Sugar ie alpine version. Of course, getting a Jak for $200 or something and mounting alpine is tempting...

eh, I'm NVA, no value add really. Just thought I'd share that I did what you did, and I'll do it again without hesitation for the right ski.

    Alpinin' on teles

    No problemo senor.

I ride Jaks with alpine touring bindings, and its safe to say no one skis harder than I do.

Whoa, that must be the beer talkin'. Seriously, mounting a step-in heel on Jaks is not an issue. Finding the right place to mount them is more challenging. Find a high-end shop that mounts both tele and alpine gear and have them make the adjustment.

    Cheers.

sorry to bring back a dead thread. Is the flex on the tele daddy the same as sugar? I can get the teles new for 300 and would like to know if I can mount them alpine.

    thanks

mounting alpine will be fine if hippys dont throw too much tofo at you for defacing a tele ski (I want to mount hippy stinks as alpine for that reason)

tele and sugar same ski and flex

I called atomic at the onset of this idea in 03/04. Yes it is exactly the same ski according to the engineer who designed it (not plural because he refered to both skis as one). Apparently because of company policy regarding tele v. alpine, atomic will NOT warranty any tele ski mounted alpine.....300? jump on them now...i just paid 350 because it was the best deal i could find on 183s after six months of searching!

first pair i had were mounted alpine at +2
