You could always drive up here and skin on our massive dump, Trackhead.

Once again, climbing plans get shot down.

Hey Mountainman, I have a friend driving into Montana today on vacation (w/snow-aversive gf). Can't reach him currently on the cell phone. Did you get snow overnight in Bozeman or Southern part of the state? He was going to check out some ghost towns up there and I told him to bring chains anyway. How much snowfall and at what elevation? I almost drove up myself but cancelled last minute due to other priorities.

Area SNOTEL's are showing 0-4" at around 7000' overnight. Most everything on gravel/pavement has melted off. Shouldnt cause a problem for him.

Thanks..I was just going to MDOT and my SNOTEL (saved) data favs, when I saw your reply. He's headed over to Warm Springs, Anaconda, Georgetown Lake area, so I'll check those SNOTEL locations for accumulation. Ya think anyone is up at Bridger today? Skinning?

FYI that forecast you posted is way, way off; for Northern Utah, my money says maybe 1" to 3" way up high Monday, and that's it. This storm is not a big snow-maker, you'll have to wait a while longer. Second wave on Tuesday night looks better...

Stoy; "significant" snow, or a few moments of flurries? Big difference there!

Kinda funny, since you were asking for my help here...

    Anyway, no offense taken.

You call the guy a sham artist, and then claim peace? That's funny!

Although, based upon the SLC NWS forecast track record in general, I will say that I think a few too many of my tax dollars are being spent on the program.

Not really a sham, I guess, just a waste of money.

Skip the details...Just tell me if it will snow a lot, or a little, so I know what time to set my alarm clock for.

At least you weren't a dick about disclosing your displeasure. I mean, that was way classy. I really liked how you addressed your note of discord to him(barron) and then added the peace, as if to say, "hey, we're still buds even though i just shit on your job and profession."

    Nice job.

    i like meteorologists.

i value all the supercomputer time it takes to calculate a weather simulation with reasonable resolution suitable for local weather forecasting. i also value the butterfly effect.

meteorologists are simply trying to do their best with available data. or to paraphrase the guide freely: "it's not the weatherman's fault, the weather is to blame".

    They seem like nice people.

BTW, just out of curiosity, anyone know what the annual salary is for, say, a National Weather Service "Senior Forecaster"?

It's very funny this comes up now; I'm a short time away from offering up a way to sign up for a weekly weather email with real-time storm updates to anyone on the board who wants it, centered on Utah ski/mountain weather.

It will come out every Sunday night, with updates as needed.

A small group of around 20 people got the email last season as a test project, and I'm ready to take it to a larger scale. It's going to be free, and you can sign up and sign off as you please.

And best of all, it'll only go to people who really want it...

PS: Astro, I don't work for the NWS; I work for a TV station.
