Glad I decided to go to the morning rally at the U here in SLC. Good turnout and very much a safe vibe, even some very conservative Mormons were on stage speaking. My original plan was to attend the evening march which ended with a shooting, where as the morning rally was so peaceful there were only 3 cops there.

Maybe if all these people had turned out to vote we wouldn’t need these protests

Went to the Hands Off rally back in April. Many more folks at the No Kings rally. More folks under sixty yesterday. It’s the folks who knew better and didn’t vote that bothers me the most. Not sure what the impact is of all of us showing up to say we are pissed. Survive until the mid terms and then just gridlock for two more years. Ugghh

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

True. But these protests are a patriotic defense of traditional liberal American values. That is not the Democrats brand which still has a lower approval rating than Trump. And it's not about Gaza either. These protests were against Donald Trump's authoritarianism. You had people carrying American flags, praising he Constitution, the Statue of Liberty, and the American Revolution of 1776.

What it didn't have much of is all the angry energy and racial grievances, calling America a colonial racist project, violence and property damage, and all the other progressive rage that got Trump elected. Nobody waving Mexican flags burning cars, nobody chanting death to America. Only one person here argued violence was an acceptable mode of resistance.

The No Kings protests remained peaceful with good message discipline and that's why it was highly effective. Whereas Trump's birthday military parade, was dreary, with low turnout, and people were bored to tears. The No Kings protests was a good moderate contrast to a radical President who acts like a king.

There were many Mexican flags at our protest.

Happy to see Mexican flags. America should make legal immigration easier because Mexicans are awesome. Waving Mexican flags while burning cars and attacking police however is counterproductive

IMO Waving Mexican flags only inflames the immigrant haters and dictator lovers. It is a positive look for anyone with a clear perspective. IME From my many interactions and observations of the undocumented, a very large percentage just want to make money to send home then go back to family. My friend from Nepal has a wife and kids in Nepal and works a full shift at the mini mart then gets on his bicycle and rides to his second full time job at the super market then gets on his bicycle and ride to an apartment to sleep.

There's evidence ICE caught that car on fire, but FOX runs the lone asshole on a motorcycle on repeat for days to keep MAGA riveted...ASS: The Movie I did note the LA Times pic of the fat bitch with her face covered by a fishnet keffiya chucking rocks at the cop cars at the famous overpass scene staged by the more professional agitators.

More to point, if the Trump admin had created a false flag to make his opposition look bad that's what it would have looked like. Trump does have authoritarian intentions but he's also responsive to public opinion. Peaceful protests focus Americans on Trump’s abuses of power, whereas violent protests enable it

We I was a kid in SoCal we had very open borders , the workers wouldn’t need to stay as long for fear of not getting back in. They would work, then go back and return if more necessary. Open borders worked pretty well. Immigration policy needs to stop worrying about deportations and open borders and institute work visa programs, easier paths to citizenship for people already here, especially for dreamers and those that have served. It’s criminal that people that serve are not granted immediate citizenship

More of a if you know, you know: the US military can parade with the best in world. Marching in formation becomes second nature. It's unthinkable that US Army could not march in cadence without it being deliberate.

My guess is that whoever choreographed the parade and it was highly choreographed didnt want it to look too much like a commie parade

Some vids of it showed up in my youtube feed, so I clicked on one and skimmed through. 3/4 of it had audio muted due to copyright infringement from whatever songs were on the loudspeaker.
