This is useful to gauge opening dates

It doesn’t matter much what the ski areas say. One big storm can mean opening.

For now though, with nothing on the horizon, late June is the likely date.

Fun video from last year, lots of the 3 valleys, in particular La Parva. Takes a couple of minutes to get going.

K2 presents "Chile Today, Gone Tamale" - Sam Kuch, Addison Rafford, and Manon Loschi in Chile.

Epic long distance photography can be had in these parts, as attested to on facebook

Shot from Concon on the Chilean coast, the Aconcagua, entirely in Argentina, looms above what I think is the top of ski Arpa. Or thereabouts. 150km away

The forecast has been bouncing around a 4 day 3 Valleys total of 35-90ccm for a few days now, most falling Thursday. It remains to be seen if this series of fronts is an atmospheric river event or a few days of chubascos (snow showers). Another front looms 9 days out, but that is beyond my confidence level.

Grooming has begun in Valle Olímpico

Now that the coming “train of fronts” is morphing into an atmospheric river of 3 fronts, over 5 days starting Wednesday night, the event is becoming clearer, and the news is buzzing. The main worry, aside from some very intense rain in certain coastal areas, is the wind associated, especially in the first front.

The rain and snow will get all the way up to the southern Atacama desert. Accumulations are greatest the central zone, from Arpa in the north to Las leñas in the south.

Further south, from Chillan to Pucon

Time to chalk up some “before” shots

That looks bad but the webcam a couple hundred meters higher is more palatable

I think the base is deepest around Maule, given precip to date and webcams

Chillan is naked at the base

But not so bad up higher on the chain

Corralco and points south have a 1,700m snow line

Just a reminder that there is a base on the higher Andes. V San Jose (5,800m) from Lo Valdes

    Ski Chile 2025

Valle Nevado is betting on the 60-80 cm forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully the wind won’t blow it all away.

The dif between 3,000m (above) and 2,700m

Huge numbers for the central zone for the next 10 days. Agonizing over whether I want to go this year, the prices for Las Lenas are way up
but only about every third season there works ou.t Was planning on coming down and buying a car for seasonal use down there this summer, but life put those plans on hold(no longer have my full-time remote job). I guess i'll need to forget about this thread for a few days and really take a look if i want to spend August/September mostly living in a hostel.

Seems the series of storms is somewhat diluted now. But things are looking wintery

This will peter out during the day, and the next front comes late Sunday. We shall see what becomes of all the brouhaha…

You don't really want to be in Las Lenas during the storm cycle.
I had a bunch of buds there during a big cycle in the 90's.
The first week was totally shut down. Then when the finally opened the lower lifts, it was total carnage.
Low viz and pent up skibums, lead to a lot of injuries the first day.
Then they had to help dig out Marta.
They ended up with one good day, out of two weeks.

Been there before, know how it is. The plan would be to go for all of August and September if they stay open. I think I jinxed the storm cycle by making an emotional post, now the amounts got halved(sorry Casey)

    Nice sunset from Stgo today

Snowed down to 1,400m, maybe 70cm fell at 3,000m.

Still dumping at 8pm, and the groomers are out at VN

Too many social obligations to get out tomorrow, but I don’t see much being opened anyways…
