Excerpt from Heather Cox Richardson's daily letter today:

The firefighters at work combating a wildfire in the state of Washington likely also felt the indignity inflicted by the government today when ICE agents showed up and made them line up so the agents could check their IDs. The agents arrested two firefighters, and when a member of the crew asked for the chance to say goodbye, the agents responded: “[Y]ou need to get the f*ck out of here. I’m going to make you leave.” One firefighter said: “You risked your life out here to save the community. This is how they treat us.”

There’s a lot going on in that article, but I thought this was a weird statement
A spokesperson for the U.S. Forest Service confirmed the Border Patrol operation and said it did not impact firefighting efforts.

Because the real issue at hand related to firefighting is whether/how the termination of the two contracts by the BLM will affect current and future firefighting this year.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it suspicious that ICE showed up on the remote Olympic Peninsula to check wildland firefighters? Someone must have tipped them off.

I'm sure there is a lot of that going on. Not surprising considering the immigration issue probably won Trump the election. It is tempting to take it out on the ICE crew, but they didn't create the situation.

Just following orders. That’s always the excuse. So ya, just because they aren’t creating the policy doesn’t mean they one hundred percent deserve all of the shit they are receiving for implementing it. Fuck ice

If someone signed up for or transferred to ICE because they honestly believed the recruiting pitch about rounding up violent criminal immigrants, and then they find themselves out in the backcountry lining firefighting crews up and arresting them, they could quit. They also don't need to double down by threatening the rest of the crew.

If you think rounding up people and sending them unharmed back to their country of legal residence is in any way akin to rounding up people to gas them and exterminate a race, then you are a serious fucking idiot.

The ICE boys do seem like they do their work with pleasure and enthusiasm. It's way beyond just following orders. And while we're putting them on the fire lines to do some actual useful work, let's get Steven Miller out there too. The guy needs to get outside more.

If you don’t think us putting people in concentration camps isn’t the same thing, then you’re the idiot. We just haven’t gotten to the last step. But it took the Germans a few years too before they did. Wake the fuk up. Same fucking thing. Unharmed? Sure.

Absolutely not akin to Hitler but these ICE roundups combined with a bunch of recent weird unprecedented dictator-like shit by Trump, all of which is approved by his supporters makes me wonder if the ICE agenda is practice to store a buncha libs that talk shit about the government in the future. Maybe in 3-6 years?

There are right wing influencers who openly say a dictatorship by Trump is welcome and say that a dictatorship would simply cut thru the red tape but really they want to eliminate the lib agenda and an authoritarian populist could do this for them. Liberty is worthy sacrice for this because they say being a lib is due to a mental disease or whatever dumb shit the conservative media tells them what to think.. Maybe some conservative false flag leads us to martial law and wooley12 is arrested at his nursing home inciting a riot from a facebook post?

Typing all this makes me think Im bat shit crazy but clearly we have a president who wants to be a dictator, so?

Well, I do remember the time they rounded up a bunch of Jan 6th rioters (and gave them due process). I thought that was a good thing.
