Corbetts Charging 12.5% for 3/4 Tariffs

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I know that a lot of us shop at Corbetts.com so I wanted to get this out there - The website for Corbetts Ski + Snowboard had a pop up saying that they were passing on 12.5% of the 25% tariff to consumers starting on 3/4/25. I ran a purchase through today (3/3) and the web receipt didn't include the 12.5% yet so I'm guessing they'll start charging it tomorrow. Technically, though, there's a chance that they might bill in a few weeks. The tariff on goods is taxed when the shipment crosses the border, so either Corbetts would have to eat the cost at that time, or I'll have to eat too at that time.

Wondered how that would play out. Ordered some Pivots over the weekend, but no mention of addition fees to cover tariff charges. Will report back if that changes.

I wonder if the [emoji637][emoji638].[emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]% is in Canadian pesos or American funny money? I’ve got some skis and [emoji638] sets of pivots showing up this week. They crossed the border into Buffalo today so I’m assuming I avoided the shit gibbon tax.

I don't think the denomination (CAD vs USD) matters. It's a percentage tax, so even if it were charged in CAD, it would just get multiplied by 12.5% from Corbetts and then converted to USD afterwards. But, sounds like you won the lottery Alta. Yours may be the last ever non-tariff package from Corbetts.

That shouldn't be how tariffs get charged. Unless the personal import exemption is being changed or if the retaliatory is an export tax. The importer should be paying everything, the exporter shouldn't retain, charge or pay any of it.

When you say personal import exemption, are you talking about the de minimis exemption for goods less than $800 for Canadian goods? Because if so, the executive order applying the 25% tariff also removes that exemption:https://globalnews.ca/news/11006577/...nada-business/

I read/heard this morning that the de minimis was taken out of the executive order due to there being no structure to actually get payments from the average person. Hopefully that is accurate.

Weibo- I read the same thing and that it would be reinstated if/when they devised the capabilities - which may prove difficult with fewer and fewer government employees...

If Corbett's is trying to reduce the impact of the Tariff on their US customers then they will be reducing the retail price to offset Trumps's Tariff, not charging 12.5% as the thread title suggests.

The title is wrong but the OP describes it well (although it should say ‘half’ of the 25% tariff rather than 12.5% of the 25% tariff)

Just placed on order for a pair of Strive bindings from Corbetts, and was not charged anything additional. Do I get a bill from the gov't on my purchase or what?

Received email this am from them stating they’ll honor de minimis until bozo figures out how to ratchet up tariff collection. 30% sale items are almost enough to tempt me

But Pivot country of origin is France? Not that we do a lot of crossborder shipping but our suppliers have told us if the tariffs come into effect it's only for Canadian/USA/Mexican produced stuff.
Two of our bike suppliers are telling us that even though they are US companies the tariffs won't apply because the bike come from Asia somewhere. The existing Canadian tariff to protect Quebec bike companies from cheap foreign bikes stays in place but that's got nithing to do with the current debacle.
