WTB - your old BD skin tail straps

    Update- all
    Good now!

This style, which I think can no longer be purchased.

I’m pretty sure they can be pulled out of the brackets without breaking anything just by lodging them to one side then pulling the lug toward the tip of the skin.

    Anyone holding?

    EDIT:
Just to make this clear, the current generation of black tail straps has a different geometry than the pictured old style straps. I need the old style, with curved lug at the end, not the new style that is for sale in shops or direct from BD.

Aw hell I just broke a couple of these on a beater set of skins. I'd get in line for a couple of these if Scralph is able to get his hands on some.

Thanks Mikey. That would require me to drill out the existing bracket rivets or cut the tail off the skin entirely. Which I was hesitant to do for $25 a kit for a 13 year old skin that has been reglued but still has a bit of life left.
I’m less hesitant to do it for $15 (if my local shop can price match since you aren’t shipping to Eugene for free, are you?), but still hoping to take the easy way out with a strap that slides right in!

I need two of the old style straps.

Scralph maybe I'm misunderstanding this but you should be able to use a screwdriver and needlenose pliers to slide the old tail out and the new tail in without having to drill anything out.

Yes, that would be possible, if the current BD tail straps had the same dimensions and lug size as the old ones pictured in my post. But they don’t. Hence the need to remove the old tail bracket and re-rivet a new one.

Not a hard fix. I had to replace one of those straps aswell. I used the widest screwdriver I had to to pry open the stainless steel enough to get the old out, and new in. Smack the SS with a hammer, or use a vise to flatten. No need to remove/replace rivets. That would suck!

I forget exactly how i replaced but I think you can just pry on the bracket and squeeze it shut in any case I have a BD branded kit with all the parts including rivets and plates that are all black both the metal & the strap so they are available

BUT i should point out there are 2 ways to put the metal clip on the skin tail SO if you put it on so the tail trails out behind the ski the strap will rip mo easily if you turn the clip around so the tail curls around OVER the top sheet with the metal piece holding it on top some strain is taken off the tail and your straps will last much longer

anybody who can't grok this i would post a picture for

Not sure what you're referring to as the old style, but the current BD skin tail replacement kit is what you need. You don't need to remove the rivets. I just did this myself yesterday. I have one I can send you for free, but don't have two.

Current style on left, old style on right.
Old lug is curved, new lug is straight and can’t be pulled through the bracket without opening it. Can’t buy old curved lug straps anymore.

Seems like most of you folks who continue to be confused by my posts are still on ancient gear like me …

Cut curved strap. Remove curved strap from riveted metal. Pull new straight strap thru riveted metal. Replacement straps sold by bd are straight and work fine to replace curved strap. No need to unrivet the metal.

Also, the new bd straps with longitudinal curve can be replaced with the bd longitudinally straight straps.
