    Paypal Scam?

I know something like this has been posted before, but I can't find it....

About twice a day, I've been getting something from Paypal saying that there was unauthorized access to my account and I need to click here and fill out a claim form there, etc. I'm pretty sure it's a scam, but really don't know. Has anyone else gotten these?

    Here's the text:

I'd treat it as a scam.

Why don't you log in to your account the normal way, check to see if there really was any unauthorised activity and then see what to do next?
You really need to stop knowing WTF you're talking about. (Tippster)

Also, I did log on normally and look. Nothing looks out of the ordinary, that's when I started wondering.

Never reply to ANY of these type of messages. Always just go directly to your account and login as normal and check if you have any notifications there about problems.

As an addition, I am still amazed at how many people don't seem to have virus software on their email, and who will just open any attachment that they are sent. If you aren't expecting something from someone, don't open it until you get confirmation via an email you send (not thru reply!) that they did send you this deliberately.

People I know are forever complaining they have to reload their computers every couple of months because of viruses, that they lost all their files (what no backup?, that's a whole 'nother issue) that their machine is running so slow. Take some precautions and the whole virus thing would go away since without the notoriety attached to hearing about your virus shutting millions of computers virus hackers would soon get bored of writing things that don't affect anyone.

It IS a scam. The link looks like it goes to PayPal but it does not. It will ask you to log in, harvest your login info and then your money.

Never follow a link in an email or on the Web to a site where you then enter sensitive information. Always go there directly by typing the addy into your browser.

That's why I was asking... The message back from paypal is that it was a scam.

Just so you know, this can also be a legit email as long as the link is actually to the real paypal site.

I got the exact same email when I tried to pay someone with my paypal account on the same computer they were going to accept the money on with their paypal account. It looked to them like the person was sending money to themself with my hacked account.

The way they correct those problems is by either calling you or by having you call the phone number listed on their website. So if you get one of those again, don't follow the link, but go to the real site, and call the resolution center.

All of my Paypal fraud contacts (2x, long story..) have been some persons name, with an e-mail and a totally different format.

I just closed my pay pal account after reading this thread.
    Shit like this scares me.
I have enough problems, I don't need someone stealing my credit card number or my identity or something.

Paypal will always address you by your full name when they e-mail you. Those phishing will not, at least for now. Expect that to change....

I got that message for a while over a year ago. I did as twoplanks said and went direct to my account typing the address in myself and logged in no problems. I have ignored this and eventually I stopped getting them. I got them off ebay too. Another one I gpt recently was supposedly from a real ebay member accusing me of not paying him. Load of shit too.

Put it this way, if I get email messages like this and I don't even have a Paypal account and have never ever even signed up, you can guarantee this is not a legit email.

It is a scam. DO NOT REPLY TO IT, or OPEN THE LINK. Whoever is sending it is trying to steal your personal info. to defraud you. Report it to paypal immediately. Paypal is safe, so long as you access its web site (www.paypal.com) without solicitation. Paypal will never contact you and ask you to sign in with your user ID and password. The same is true of ebay.
