Had a quick day out fishing for humpies(pink salmon for those of you that are a bit more cultured) It's pretty much a meat fishery for my wife and I but after 45 minutes limits I think I'll break the bug rod out for the next few days.http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/68a12b5b..._182310757.mp4

Edit: Looks like videos are still being a bit funky. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

The humpies are just crazy thick in the sound right now. Just bought a few pink flies and am going to try to catch some from the kayak on the salt this weekend. Will report back.

psa tfo axiom 2x in quite a few weights on sale at Sierra for $199. these rods were a steal at $450, at $200 they're a no brainer. great streamer sticks.

It's been a salmon meat fest in the San Juan Islands this last week with a mix of fishing, smoking and canning. Easy limits with buzz bombs, flies and some trolling. The other day I managed to catch Chinook, coho, sockeye and pink salmon in the same day which was pretty damn neat!

I knew a guy who would go up to Alaska every year to fish for food. He'd catch salmon and halibut, and ship it all down to Missoula, enough to last through the year. He said that including all expenses (airfare, lodging, boat rental food, etc.) it was more cost effective than buying it in the store, with the added bonus of going fishing for a couple weeks.

We didn’t stop getting em while the board was down. Got some decent fish over Pioneer Day weekend (It’s a Utah thing).

Tried to get these guys to eat, no deal.

    These guys neither.

Got home from vacation and hit our usual today, kept alive the 25+ year streak of never being skunked there.

I don’t usually keep em, but we had an eater on board. Brought a few home.

I just got back from three days at "Big Cutthroat Creek". I caught some nice cutthroats, caught the first brown trout I've seen up there (which was also the smallest brown trout I've ever seen), and had a close encounter with a bat this afternoon, which seemed to be attracted to my fly rod.

My first morning I landed what may have been my biggest cutthroat, it was close to 18" but it's hard to measure a live fish. A few years ago I caught another one around the same size, but I had a camera for this one.

Before going out there, I picked up some trico parachutes, which caught about a third of the fish I landed, including this one (finally a picture that really shows how bright their colors can be).

The biggest fish of the trip was an 18" cutt/bow (below) which took a sort of green and yellow striped parachute that I've Seen Black Diamonds sent me a couple years ago, it hooked a few fish, including the one that broke it off last night at sunset.

Damn, just missed the trico hatch looks like. Strong work!
If you know where this snag is on Fish Creek, there are about 3-4 TJ hookers wedged in that log.

Trico hatch is still going on, it is strongly dependent on water temperature. In a cold water stream it can happen toward evening, but in the Clark Fork, the morning after a warm night, it can start shortly after sun up. This time of year, when the fish start rising, and you can't see anything on the water, it's good to try some sort of trico pattern. You might not see them flying, but it could have been upriver and the spinners have drifted down to where you are.

You aren't missing much really, it's just a time of day when the fish are really picky and you have to use tiny hooks.

Hey, wait a minute, holy shit you used an emoji and it didn't come out as text!
