Thread: DIY Tech Binding Heel Spacers

    I like this thread.

    I have been thinking of printing then machining a heel block for 25mm track touring bindings. Should be trivial to mount to the foreward end of the atk r01 or equivalent adjustment plates with some m5 t nuts.

    Yeah this is the other type of spacer I'd want. All my bindings are either alpinists or haute routes. Something that screws into the adjustment plate would be great, and if you need to change height for different boots it's easy to swap out without taking the binding heel off.

    Yeah I don't see why not, I'm just limited in tools to a hand drill and 3d printer right now so didn't want to deal with accurately drilling and countersinking the ptfe. I'm also not sure if screw holes on top would provide an anchor point for ice to start to build up, but I think to have an adjustable spacer that's hard to avoid.

    Also been thinking a little bit about using captured magnets to hold things together in the z direction, but you'd have to make sure things slot together strongly in x/y.

    There are PC/PTFE filament options, too. I'll bet they're toxic and a PITA like nylon.

    Check out the stepped concept up thread to adjust heights. Using embedded magnets is an interesting thought. I've got various ones and use them in our tools. The idea of screws is you can easily adjust shims, heights or pieces, anchored to the ski using inserts. A magnet might be able to get knocked out unless there was some additional rotation, slide or snap in 'safety lock'.

    The PTFE rods or sheets are machinable and I can mess around with my CNC to see how true that that is or if it's a PITA.

    MTN/Backland Heel Spacer

    I did something similar with my Backlands, they are the version with the brake, and the brakes were not wide enough for my Candide 3.0, so i removed them, and cut a plexiglass scraper into a few short rectangles. Sandwiched them together and screwed them right in front of the heel piece. Cant say much in terms of improved ski performance because i dont have a great reference point, but they do prevent "negative" rise when in hike mode.
