Someone sent me this on instagram yesterday. Lots of fancy camera work, and epic sounding music with heart string pulling voiceovers, almost no information, and only a handful of glances at the binding itself in the 2 minute video. Then it ends with "send us money on Kickstarter". Yeah no...

I kinda think it does- there’s a picture of the founders on kickstarter with the bindings, and on one of them it looks like the heel tower is rotated a little bit.

Yeah, but if the toe is locked it has no way to release laterally even at the heel. There are 3 connection points, A and B at the toe, and C at the heel. If A and B are fixed on the lateral plane then C is also fixed on that same plane.

I also don’t think the toe is locked in descent mode. It looks like all that’s holding the toe is forward pressure. If the heel releases laterally, then the toe should rotate out

Perhaps. I couldn't really tell from the video I guess. It looked to me like he had the lever in the same position for ski and skin, but maybe Im not looking close enough.

I was in airports the entire day so I had time to get out the magnifying glass. Haven’t found the toe patent yet though

My hat's off to them for trying and I hope they get there. I, for one, would be thrilled to see a touring weight dildo style heel on a pin binder.
I hear ya and agree in the broad sense about criticism vs doing something new. I do think the general negative reaction stems from the lack of any real substance in this though. It's an extraordinary claim without any extraordinary evidence, just fancy camera-work.

Hopefully there's something worth actually paying attention to though once they release something meatier than a sizzle reel.

So on their instagram, they replied to a comment about lateral release and said that they’re “still working on a way for a clean lateral release”

So you’re saying they have a concept of a plan

They’re talking about deliveries towards the end of next year. So plenty of time for tweaks and updates to come.

This. I don't see any benefit to the toe. It is the same weight and functionality as any of the lightweight pin/tech toes, but with an added insert that isn't crampon compatible and is likely to get fucked up in a scramble. Maybe slightly lower stack height, but no-one cares about that 3mm.

The heel though is really interesting. Should be able to offer the ski feel of a Kingpin or Tecton at a WAY lower weight, and a reliable vertical release. Lateral release is questionable on many tech heels anyway. If I could, I'd pick up a kickstarter pair just to fuck with the heel.

Use that heel with a tecton or vipec toe.

My main complaint about this idea is that they're marketing it as a freeride touring binding. Nothing about the toe functionality gives any hints of elastic travel nor lateral release. The appeal of CAST, Shift, or Duke is that you can get into those bindings and feel the performance of a downhill binding. Pins don't do that, and neither will this binding.

The heel piques my interest. But in my mind, this binding does not compete Against the main competitor bindings. Given the wonky toe mechanism, I'd rather use an MTN than anything this thing offers as a tradeoff in the heel.

I like the symmetry between the torsion bar approach of the titan toe and the heel here, which also looks like it’s a bit like a torsion bar. I’d like to see a low friction plate over where the boot heel sits, and some plastic nubs at the end of the brakes.
I bet the final weight will be closer to 400 or 450 once they finalize the details and get the manufacturing sorted out.

Haven't we learned some lessons about whether to buy first-gen, new design touring bindings?

    This remains the best summary.

There is nothing particularly innovative in the design.

The video production values are higher than the product warrants.

They commented on one of their instagram vids “we come up with a concept to implement lateral release”. Not sure if that’s a plan to come up with a concept or if they’ve got the concept already.

As interested as I am in the idea of these snowblades with pins, I’m a bit disappointed that during development they didn’t consider that potential buyers would really want some sort of lateral release.
