Let’s hope Mitch bug eyes McConnell, Murkowski, Paul, and Collin’s out an end to this bullshit today. Democracy could win.

Yeah, I know, wishful thinking about a bunch of spineless puppets who are afraid to do what is fundamentally right.

The most self sufficient country on the planet is probably North Korea. If that doesn't tell people all they need to know about bad ideas, then five decades of data from 151 countries conclusively showing tariffs are bad for growth probably won't either:

"Using aggregated annual data for 151 countries (34 advanced and 117 developing) over 1963–2014, we find that tariffs have economically- and statistically-significant adverse effects on output growth. The impact is persistent and increases with the magnitude of the tariff change. "

    Multi,

I think everyone with more than one functioning brain cell knows that tariffs are useless/counterproductive/harmful. I spent days and days trying to find any economist writing articles that supported tariffs, there are none. Even the typically conservative publications/journals aren't falling in-line with the rhetoric. There's exactly one person on planet earth who thinks they are neat, that is Trump. The rest of the population knows they are fucking stupid.

He likes control. There should be no complaint about reciprocal tariffs, none. But he’s using it for foreign policy and more.

I doubt I could link to it cuz the froum is so fucked but its easy to find with a search where Bolton a smart guy and a patriot more or less told us in a you tube

I seen Tarrifs explained to trump in very simple terms he doesn't understand them he thinks the company exporting to USA pays the tarrifs

You fuckers can keep your canadian whiskey swill. The REAL problem is the 25% tariff on tequila from Mexico... that really pisses me off. Looks like the Whistler EDGE card is still gonna be cheap for me, so ill just go back to hunkering down and spending all my time and a little money enjoying the wonderful mountains, forests, and national parks around me... wait... fuck.

Now I get why the price was waaaay more yesterday.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

    Happy “Liberation Day”!

US bound border traffic from British Columbia plummets further - dropping over 42% compared to last year.

The US economy isn't going to collapse because BC residents aren't driving to the Bellingham Costco to buy gas and milk, but that doesn't mean it's good for this country, either. And I think we'll need to wait a bit longer to see if Canadians will continue this behavior for the long haul. People have a tendency to return to their habits.

It will be a slow drop down with a plateau at a lower level. Return to inflation will be an unwelcome surprise for all the world

I am hoping that the Senate legislation countermanding the "fentanyl emergency" declaration trump is using to do tariffs will pass.

None of this BS needs to happen.

It is like every thing that trump wants to do, he comes up to a fork in the road about how to do it, and the sign reads "go this way if you want to do it in a way that is self destructive, unsettles the markets and destroys America's reputation" and he can't help himself but run headlong that way... almost like he is compromised.

Inflation and recession on both sides but you got this America !

I think he picks the option that's the most belligerent to the most people.

B.C. border crossings of vehicles with B.C. plates is down 43% year over year. And as noted, many of the vehicles that are still crossing are likely commercial, so the drop in regular travel accords the border took an even bigger hit:

It only makes sense if Canada sent all the american booze back there will be an oversupply and they will still be sending it back for some time

further up I forgot to mention the NA auto industry grinding to a halt

I don't think trump thinks or knows anything at all what he knows is how to win doesnt matter if its legal or fair
