It’s going to be a long four years…

First term Donnie - his entire team would be telling him to shut the fuck up.

This second term Donnie shit - where anyone with a brain has been pushed out - more to come.

Waiting for NATO to issue a statement to the effect of - Are you fucking serious, cause if you are we can be fucking serious too…

Canada should move our two tanks right up to the USA imaginary line border to show that we are serious. One might have to tow the other, but still.

LOL let's see dementia donny raise tariffs on softwood lumber right now when 10,000 homes and businesses are going to need to be rebuilt in California.

Canada can also start some fuckery with border and airspace restrictions on American carriers. And the redhatters still crying about the price of eggs?

It's going to be a chaotic four years in the White House. The media will be complicit. The media loves Trump because he's good for ratings. That goes for both pro-Trump media and the opposition media.

The internet is mostly bad for discourse too. Like the advent of the printing press then radio followed by television, every communication technology has seen a rise in charismatic demagogues who exploit the technology for personal gain or dictatorial aspirations.

The good news is the American system was intentionally designed to prevent radical change. Normal political opposition is the most effective way to check Trump's worst impulses. Indulging the media fantasy that fuels outrage only makes things worse.

Trying to browbeat normies into hating Trump even more will only backfire. Treating him like a normal legitimately elected President by focusing on policy and ignoring as much as possible his "asshole all the time" schtick will take away a lot of his power.

Just try to normalize him. If he does something positive, praise it. When he does something bad criticize it like you would a normal politician. Most of all avoid hyperbolic overstatements like preparing for an invasion. His supporters absolutely delight in that kind of response. Instead, focus on what matters

Why would anyone go on Fox News? Fox's "news personalities" are such a bunch of giant assholes. Jesse Watters is obviously acting and asking questions/making comments to provoke a negative response from the Premier. He was totally trolling for the "Soorry but fuck you USA. You'll annex our country over our dead bodies!" response.

Fox LOVES this misdirection bullshit from Trump. They lean into and the viewers eat it up and take it FAR more seriously than they should allowing these crazy ideas to gain legitimacy in our more and more fucked up society.

    Yeah

Just me imagining that Donnie, if he puts in the tariffs, will blame the radical left and Canada for making him do it like he had no other choice.

And his voters will be like “yeah! The dems made him do it! That’s why I’m paying more for stuff”

Who cares. So long as pain is there, fuck em. I glanced at an article yesterday that stated Canada held hundreds of billions in US debt they could call due. I would cash out of Amurica.

"(Annexation) actually sort of came up at one point and then we started musing back-and-forth about this," Trudeau told Psaki. "And I started to suggest, 'Well, maybe there could be a trade for Vermont or California for certain parts,' and he immediately decided that it was not that funny anymore and we moved onto a different conversation.

Trudeau says the tariffs will not only raise the price of nearly everything for American citizens, but Canada will "have a robust response."

"We're ready to respond with tariffs as necessary. You may remember when Donald Trump put tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, which did nothing but raise the cost of steel and aluminum for American consumers. We responded by putting tariffs on things like bourbon, Harley Davidson (motorcycles), orange juice, playing cards, these sorts of things that Canadians can find replacements for so they wouldn't have to pay more for those.

"And it ended up causing a lot of loss in American businesses for whom Canada is the number one export. We are the number one export partner for about 35 different U.S. states. And anything that thickens the border between us ends up costing American citizens and American jobs. That's not what President Trump got elected to do."

It's worth remembering this was a left-leaning joke before it became Trump's right-leaning joke. That's why oftentimes countering bluster with humor works better than taking everything too seriously. Per XXX-er's article tariffs are what really matters this time around

A former business partner, who lived in Westport Ontario, said that Canada had a long-term plan for taking over the USA.

Canada has intentionally infiltrated USA’s cultural zeitgeist with bland entertainers (William Shatner, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Nickleback, etc). When sufficient Americans are asleep in front of their televisions watching these acts, Canadians will invade.

And to his credit, he led an armed invasion of the USA. His armoured company drifted about 1/4 mile into the USA while running maneuvers along the BC border, and his sergeants didn’t bother to tell him until later…

and this was pre-LA fire so I don't think its gona be the same deal eh

Right, that's why tariffs are the main issue and not annexation let alone an invasion. I don't know how to make that any clearer. It's worth thinking about why the recent tariff thread here in the padded room didn't receive even a full page of responses whereas this thread is now up to 12

the annexation is a joke, the Tarrifs are a joke and the biggest joke is of course the Trump

The same 2 countries went thru this exact same exercise 4 yrs ago and there is a good agreement in place which trump negotiated and signed so what is gona be any different ?

when USA cant sell stuff to canada or gets overcharged buying things from canada that they need and everybody on both sides is paying tarrifs trump will have to stand down

The problem is that Trump is an old man with outdated mercantilist beliefs. The most effective way to handle Trump's bad policies is by feeding his ego with praise and symbolic wins.

We'll have to wait and see, but I do think some of the risk here is overstated. It's all contingent so I might be wrong, though. Germany is going through something similar. Their press is spending a lot of time talking about how to survive the Trump era.

Meanwhile they're experiencing worse economic stagnation than Canada due in large part to technology transfer to China hollowing out their industry along with bad energy policy. Western countries seem to be going through a great forgetting, forgetting what did and didn't work in the past.

America is forgetting that tariffs don't work. Other countries are hyper focused on things that are irrelevant and removed from the pressing realities of today. We've become too obsessed with utopian ideals divorced from reality

Still at Mr Trump is. I can't get is he dumb or doesn't care that Canada will change its opinion of America for a generation? latest poll has 90% of Canadians not onside to join the US. From globe and Mail

U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his threat to impose tariffs against Canada on Thursday and said they could be avoided if Canada becomes an American state.

“We have a tremendous deficit with Canada. We’re not going to have that anymore. We can’t do it,” Mr. Trump said in a virtual appearance at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. “You can always become a state, and if you’re a state, we won’t have a deficit. We won’t have to tariff you.”

The new president has threatened to impose 25-per-cent tariffs on Canadian imports as early as Feb. 1. He has also tasked his administration with exploring a range of trade measures, including tariffs, aimed at reducing America’s trade deficit with other countries. The deadline for these studies is April 1.

“We don’t need them to make our cars, and they make a lot of them,” Mr. Trump said of Canada. “We don’t need their lumber, because we have our own forests. We don’t need their oil and gas. We have more than anybody.”

He repeated the incorrect claim that the U.S. has a “$200-billion or $250-billion” trade deficit with Canada. In fact, the latest data suggests the annual U.S. trade deficit in goods with Canada is around $100-billion. This number shrinks to around $65-billion when services are included, as the U.S. sells more services to Canada than it buys.
