    BOA Dalbello Cabrio

    …does not exist.

    But!

Hear me out. In classic GoldenBC fashion, I’m bored and intrigued and want to heavily modify some ski boots.

Dalbello 3 piece boots don’t work for me at all. The Krypton gave me zero heel hold and there was no contact with the front of my ankle. Two years ago I heat molded the lower shell of a customer’s boot to have it tighter in that area at the front of the ankle. You can find this mod on here. It worked decently.

The new Cabrio is a much more anatomically correct boot and could almost work for me as a comfortable boot, but it still offered zero heel hold and contact at the front of the ankle.

    BUT!

If I do up the middle buckle underneath the tongue (say what?! You heard me, under the tongue!) it actually feels quite nice. It could work like that but it would probably be better if the buckle was holding the tongue down tight.

So, I think you could mount a boa to cinch down the lower clog, specifically at the ankle, and the tongue and instep buckle would sit nicely on top of the low profile boa cable.

Even better, there’s a soft, flat strap that goes across the instep and is attached to a short boa. The increased surface area would prob be beneficial.

I have lots of boa parts. Just need someone’s warranty Cabrio to be available to tinker on….

I assume we haven’t seen a BOA three piece alpine boot yet is because three piece boots typically are three buckle boots and rely on that center buckle to really crank that ankle down….

Selfishly, for my feet with a really high instep/bridge… three buckle boots are saviors. I remove the lower buckle completely and over tighten that middle buckle. On paper, I believe a BOA would ruin that design for me. However, I do think a boa overlap boot would be an improvement for me over a four buckle overlap… I haven’t been on one yet but I am curious.

A strap riveted to a ladder and and buckle would be easier to fab than a boa for this purpose. I use ones like these a lot-

You’re probably right. I was thinking what is the lowest profile and BOA makes for a sexier title.

Will it? Keep in mind, I’m talking about having the fixture under the tongue. That’s more important than it actually being boa.

The concept of tightening the boot through a hard plastic tongue is quite ineffective for anyone who doesn’t have a high instep or thick ankle.

Any ideas on increasing the forward lean with these? Cut out the back a few mm so the stops go further forward and somehow attach a shim to the ledge? The ledge is metal now correct?

Also anyone know what the ramp angle is on the new cabrio free? And do DIN soles exist?

can you add a shim t the back of the liner or cuff to just push you forward a bit? Seems easier then playing with the walk mode? But maybe some plstic to the shell, where the walk lever hits?

It comes with an extra shim which goes under the walk mode lever + insert which goes on the back of the cuff. I found the standard 13 degrees to be more forward than cochise lean, more similar to the raptors (which should be 16 but feel slightly more upright).
