    Choosing ignore

Moving forward I've decided to "try" to ignore the news, the polyass, and Musky (one in the same now) threads.

Let it snow! Let it rain...mtn bike building season! Let the swells rise and winds dwindle for the Otts out there! And all that other good shit!

    Party on!

HEAR HEAR!!! Let's ski and forget about things that we can't individually control. Washington is out of control.

after intense conversations with my mother, this was the exact same tact that i decided to take with that little bitch suzie at the end of the block... next time she rode 'round the neighborhood and said that i should get the fuck out of her way, i stood my ground and told her that my mommy told me to ignore you. she got off her bike, walked over and kicked me in the balls. as i was curled up in pain whilst clutching my aching nuts, she looked me in the eye and said sweetly, "you can ignore me all you want, i'm still gonna kick you in the balls"....

    fact.

We *finally* got some rain over here, so I'm hoping I can get some bike jumps shaped and packed. But it looks like it might freeze before I can get out there, and frozen dirt packs even worse than dry dirt. Here's to hoping that temps stay mild enough for trail work.

And yeah, ignoring all that other stuff.

After my wife cried herself to sleep on election night, we instituted a full news blackout in our house. It's helping but not sure how long ignoring will be possible once looney tunes policies that impact our lives start getting implemented.

This is no way to live life.

Take a break but you can’t live life as an ostrich forever. Many would argue that’s what got us here in the first place and that disengagement will only make things worse.

One of the best things that happened to me during the Pandemic was that I decided one day to just stop paying so much damned attention.

No more news channels on in the background for noise or quick info. No more checking 5-6 news sites several times a day. Ignore political discussions in reality and online. None of it mattered and it was all shit so none of them were going to miss me anyway.

You know what? It’s been great. I of course have to pay attention to markets and news of the day to be an informed citizen and for my job but 10-20 minutes at most and then done. No more. Not worth my time, energy or mental health and I’m sure as shit not taking about it unless I’m billing for it.

Focus on my family, my friends, my community and shit that makes me either laugh or smile about the world around me.

Grandma always said, “this too shall pass” and she was right so I’m glad I don’t waste time getting worked up over bad news as much anymore.

    YMMV.

After years of TV on when we were up, it went news silent on 11/3. I still scroll but nothing shocks me anymore. Too much. We've been through a lot in a short time. R&R at the rear and away from the fighting is a good therapy. Return when and how you're able.

I agree with ya BMills. Worry about those things you can control like relationships with your family and friends, and worry less about those things you can’t control

Yeah, my wife is struggling. I guess this post was maybe more for her than me, not that she reads this shit!

I don't think it's mentally healthy to be consumed by the idiocy of what's happening in our country right now. I voted. That is all the power I have. I can influence local politics, but quite honestly I live in a wonderful place and am content with our local government...not perfect, but what is. On a national scale we're fucked. I'm just hoping to make it thru 2yrs for a step forward and then 2 more.

Until then I'll hear snipits of the junk show and try not to get upset and disgusted with what we've become.

Probably should put some of that big deck energy in a Cybertruck or sum DogeCoin, Cono. You'll be one of the last immigrants to be rounded up.

Having to jump back between the US and Canada is tiring enough for me with work, so I've had to cut out a lot of, if not all news. Canada is fucked, the US is fucked. Canada is going to get even worse once Trump is in office and I fully expect a downward spiral into far right wing ideology across the country as well. BC might be the savior this time around.

Plus, got a really busy 2025 spring/summer/fall building a house by myself. If anyone wants to come lend a hand with anything I'm happy to house and feed you in the Kootenays!

You can simultaneously keep your head out of the sand and also shut the fuck up at the same time.

Im not speaking to you, just as a general concept.

I'm not sure you can chose to be blissfully uninformed. One of my best friends is this way. Truly does not give a fuck and would rather not know.

Me, I feel the some level of understanding surrounding the news provided context for life. But there is a healthy way to do this. It is not having the TV news on all the time. And it certainly is not consuming to the low grade incendiary commentary.

As the sign at my snowmobile mechanic says, "Stop Covid...Turn Off Your Television". Make incremental change and replace bad habits with better habits. One suggestion I heard is to replace news with history. I like it. Helps me rationalize that the world has been fucked many times in the past and we made it.

So just focus on being the best version of yourself everyday. And whatever you have left over, use that to lift other people up. It ain't easy but it doesn't mean that it is complicated.

Get out of your comfort zone and get around some different groups of people. If you are one of those that is feeling rage, buying into the division, go hang out with the other team a bit. Its the only way.
