The Vermonters look nice but I’d have a hard time asking someone to pay that much unless they really are gold lined or are simply the most dexterous (as fuck).

I bought the Vermonters for my grandfather who has problems with his hands and can't have much making skin contact besides leather. He loves them and asked for another pair for a gift this year. My mom also asked for a pair for herself, and I got the ski gloves for myself during their black friday sale. They are definitely burly and the goat leather is a big step up from anything else I've tried, even Hestra or the other premium options. the stitching pattern might take a bit to get used to, especially at the fingertips and on the palm, but it's not annoying. Price is super steep but man they are nice

They sold a 3-pack in stores is his point; at around $20. I use the same glove for wrenching on bikes, summer outdoor projects, and warm weather touring.

Seriously, try the Showas. $3 a pair and they last nearly as long as leather. I use them 99% of the time now. Rarely do I really need the protection of full leather.

I'm not so sure VermontGloves are bourgeois. They do advertise that way yet up until 10 or 15 years ago (maybe still do, not sure) they made the go to gloves for high-voltage power/utility lineman. Think guys (mostly) in high bucket trucks working on live high voltage lines, the gloves were considered top of the line PPE, as in "sweet, your employer uses green mt. gloves, our employer skimps, they won't spend for the good stuff...".

As I write this I'm not sure why PPE gloves made for utility linemen are connected to gloves used to rake the leaves and do yard work, so you might have a point.

Whites and Nicks boots are also pretty bougie if you’re not fighting fires, logging, or climbing towers. But they are very nice and purposeful boots. Should be for $700.

I have these gloves and use them sometimes. Been through many pairs over the years. For outdoor in the dirt and woods stuff around me, there are too many grasses with seed burrs and the fabric gets covered with them outside and around the inside cuff. I don’t have that problem with leather gloves. But they are definitely better for use for me than leather when veg around me or hand tools are wet.

It's hard to tell from the product description and photos - are they lined at all? How's the warmth?

Another made in the good ‘ol’ USA option is Sullivan Gloves - https://sullivanglove.com/

Have different leather options to choose from and priced lower than Vermont Gloves…

For people that work with their hands for a living; gloves are a wear item. The comparison to high end work boots is not valid - you resole those boots - you don’t “repalm” gloves (to my knowledge…)

If you are actually doing work it’s hard to beat modern PU or nitrile dipped work gloves…

If you want to look cool as you split a few logs for the fireplace - sure - buy some fancy mancessory gloves.

I don’t need gloves, but I’m tempted to get their Goat Roper model just for the bitchin’ name.

For work gloves I just use the cheap unlined Hestras or Kincos. For cold weather I’ve got some worn Kinco 901s that I used for patrolling but they got a little too gross for working on patients.

Pigskin for work gloves, deer for driving. I haven't used buffalo, not sure about goat. But as others have said, people who make their living wearing gloves are mostly wearing artificial.
My light ski gloves are Hestra work. A lot cheaper than Hestra ski.

Cowskin gets hard and stiff once it gets wet, and I'm not interested in spending more to treat and retreat work gloves than the gloves are worth. I have a bin full of single gloves whose mates wore out. All the same side.
