Skied some around Snowmass recently and I think we got caught in the middle in some areas. Enough snow to cover and to rot a bit, but not enough for getting some of the craggier stuff to open... now there is a bunch of that rot around, or it's really thin between some of the moguls that have been skied in. Found some similar stuff on Highlands this past weekend as well, but that all seemed to open a little earlier so maybe a little less rotten. Anywho, been a better than the avg. year with that nice big dump that opened up so much, don't mean to complain.

I felt like last year the real bony stuff at snowmass never really filled in. Rock island and rayburns area of HV seemed to stay too thin all season

My favorite snow of the last few days has been dipsy headwall and slalom hill.

Riding the Gondi's been really nice the last few days. Ran into several OG mags that don't post anymore, that I consider friends.

The skiings good! We should setup a meet and greet, just so we know what everyone looks like, before this site shits the bed?

Travel Advice Please. You all helped me plan my trip for my daughter and I for this weekend back in Dec. Only thing I haven't locked down yet is our transfer from vail airport to Aspen (flying out of Aspen way home). Turo? Shuttle? Uber? Thumb it? Timing will be this Saturday morning. Thanks in advance. I will go check all prices myself but just curious on local opinion. Cheers

I don’t know of shuttles that would do it; CME/Epic doesn’t list it, but maybe there’s someone. I can’t imagine it would be under $100 pp. I doubt an uber or Mountain Taxi will be cheaper. I can’t imagine Turo would work for one way. You could ask around on your flight; I’ve given and received rides from EGE to Aspen before.

Cheapest: you can get a rental Hyundai Santa Fe for $160 right now on Priceline from EGE-ASE for 1/18-19. That allows you to drive your stuff straight to your place then you can go return the car and bus/shuttle/taxi back while she chills.

Being completely honest here, but the only folks that I know who cross pollinate those destinations actually fly.

You could get away with a Standard or Compact for $100. The storm arrives late.
Ski Snowmass on the way over, drive into town after and return the car later.

I think the rental car route is easiest as well.

Saturday was better than I anticipated. Aspen fresh tracks until noon when we went to Tiehack for the kids races.... which skied really well.

Sunday it was like everyone went straight up the bowl and nothing else really got skied until lunch. We skied boxcar and it was better than expected... still some sharks for sure though.

Everything is skiing better than the snowfall total story tells.

There were more people hiking on Saturday after they got it open mid-morning (and it was zero vis and blowing sideways) than yesterday first thing. Saturday's bowl lap was good, yesterday's was my best run of the season.

Yes, for an average snowfall season, skiing's great! Our one week of Arctic weather starts this weekend.
Thank god we've got the Gondi.

I'm going to the Bahamas 1/23, I wish we could postpone the arctic weather till then.

I heard the Bowl was pretty choice both days. I skied Ajax Saturday; excellent. Buttermilk with the kids then a sugar bowl lap yesterday. Cold!

I had friends have to take High Mountain Taxi from EGE to Carbondale this past summer due to messed up travel plans and it was crazy expensive, like $250 I think. I'd go rental car

    Bowl was great sunday!

The G's have been good all year, but ozone, b one, and boxcar looked pretty good (and were getting skied by those in the know) with the most recent storm and wind event.

Thanks all. One way rental is the way to go. Few quick easy ones-best place to watch NFL (at least for a bit) that my 16 year old daughter can go/will enjoy for a bit? Best current local beer you like (IPA/Double/Pilzner/Lager, basically anything except stoudts). Favorite on mtn stop for snack (any of the mtns). TKS

Skiings really good, but It's going to be cold. Bring everything you've got for arctic weather.
All the on mountain restaurants are good. I'm a Sundeck guy, but you'd probably enjoy Bonnie's on Aspen.
    Old school ski lodge.

Highlands is really just Merrygoround. I wouldn't point a 16 yr old to Cloud 9.

Snowmass I like Sam's the best.
Split a pizza and leafy green salad.

Maybe Hickory House for the game and some BBQ.

Your daughter would probably really like Kemo Sabe.

    Snowmass opened the Cirque Poma!

Shred covered most of it but Home Team BBQ is the answer to this question. Best TV situation in town and family friendly.

Yeah I was gonna say home team too. A little outside town but easy free bus ride to buttermilk. Not sure if downtowner will take you there but worth a shot. If you go the wings are mandatory. Best ones in the valley imo

Wow fantastic. Thanks all. Our best case scenario is rolling into town Saturday at 130 ish. Maybe we just do some fun cruisers/acclimate at buttermilk and get 2nd half of first game there. also have to drop car off at airport so this sounds like a solid opening afternoon. TKS again!!

One last vote for Home Team BBQ, especially on the night (I think it's Thursdays?) that they smoke a Pastrami and have the Reuben special.

edit: and walking from the Airport to Buttermilk and/or Home Team without luggage or ski equipment is completely feasible.

is that Home Team as in the bbq chain from the sc low country? didn't know they'd branched out like that. pretty good stuff but fucking outrageously priced.
